FAFSA processed on 3/22 but no SAI score yet - is this delay normal?
So frustrated right now! My daughter and I completed her FAFSA back in February, and we received a notification on 3/22 saying our application was processed. But here we are almost 3 weeks later and still no Student Aid Index (SAI) score! We've checked both her student account and my parent account on studentaid.gov multiple times, and nothing has changed. The status just says "processed" but there's no actual SAI number anywhere. Is this normal? How long does it usually take to get the SAI after processing? Some of her college decisions are coming in, and we need to compare financial aid packages ASAP. I'm worried something went wrong but don't know who to contact. Should we submit a correction just to trigger something in the system?

same thing happened to us. took about 4 weeks from "processed" to actually seeing the SAI on the dashboard. the whole system is messed up this year with the FAFSA simplification changes.

•4 weeks?! That's insane. Did you do anything to speed it up or just wait it out?

This is unfortunately quite common this year due to the FAFSA Simplification Act implementation. The system shows "processed" when they've completed the initial review, but the actual SAI calculation and distribution to schools often takes 2-4 additional weeks. I recommend these steps: 1. Check if any schools have received your FAFSA data by calling their financial aid offices directly 2. Look for the official Student Aid Report (SAR) in your daughter's account messages 3. If it's been more than 3-4 weeks since processing, then you should contact Federal Student Aid directly Don't submit a correction unless there's something actually wrong, as that will likely reset the process and delay things further.

To add to what others have said - the "processed" status just means they've run the initial verification. The actual SAI calculation is a separate step that happens afterward. Have you checked if there are any To-Do items in either account? Sometimes they need additional verification documents before finalizing the SAI. Also, schools can sometimes see your FAFSA information even before you see the final SAI. I'd contact the financial aid offices at the schools where your daughter was accepted and ask if they can see her FAFSA data in their system. That might give you peace of mind that things are moving forward.

•That's a good idea about contacting the schools directly! I'll try that tomorrow. There aren't any to-do items showing in either account, which is what makes this so frustrating. Everything looks complete but still no SAI.

THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!!! The Department of Ed has completely botched the rollout of the new FAFSA. My son's application has been "processing" for SIX WEEKS and still no SAI. We've called the Federal Student Aid number 21 TIMES and either get disconnected or wait on hold for hours only to be told they "can't help with that issue." The whole system is a disaster and nobody is being held accountable. By law they're supposed to process applications within 14 days but they're ignoring that requirement. Meanwhile our kids' college decisions are due May 1st and we have NO FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION!!

•I feel your frustration! I've had the exact same experience trying to call FSA. After my 4th attempt and getting disconnected each time, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent confirmed there's a major backlog with SAI calculations specifically but could at least verify that my application wasn't missing anything or flagged for issues. Gave me peace of mind that we were just stuck in the queue, not doing something wrong.

•Thanks for the tip! I'm gonna try that tomorrow because I'm at my wits end with this whole process.

•Really? That makes me even more worried something's gone wrong with ours. How can I tell if we're stuck in verification?

•If you were selected for verification, you would see a clear notification in both accounts. It would say something like "Action Required: Verification" in the dashboard, and there would be specific instructions about what documents to submit. Since you're not seeing that, it's more likely just caught in the processing backlog.

Update on timelines from what I'm hearing across several schools where I work with students: Applications processed in early March are starting to have SAIs appear this week. The Department of Education seems to be working through a backlog in roughly chronological order. For the original poster - since yours was processed on 3/22, I'd expect you'll see an SAI within the next 7-10 days based on current patterns. If schools need financial information before then for scholarship consideration, you can request an extension based on FAFSA delays - most institutions are being flexible this year given the widespread issues.

•Thank you so much for this timeline info! That gives me some hope. One school has already extended their decision deadline to May 15 because of FAFSA delays, but the others still have May 1 deadlines. I'll definitely reach out about extensions if we don't see the SAI soon.

btw did u check the actual student aid report pdf not just the dashboard? sometimes the SAI is in there even when it doesn't show on the main screen. click on "view student aid report" under the processed application

•OMG YOU'RE RIGHT!!! I just checked the PDF report and the SAI is actually there! It's on page 2 right under the EFC section (which says N/A). I can't believe I missed this - thank you so much for the tip! Now I just need to figure out if schools have received this information yet.

•This is great news! If the SAI is in the SAR document, then it has been calculated and is likely already being transmitted to your selected schools. I'd still recommend confirming with each financial aid office that they've received it, but this is a huge step forward.
