FAFSA submitted in January but no SAI score yet - is anyone else still waiting?

So frustrated with this new FAFSA system... My daughter submitted her application on January 26th and got the confirmation email saying it was complete. It's now been almost 2 months and we STILL haven't received any SAI score or heard anything from financial aid offices. The studentaid.gov site just shows "processed" but nothing else. Is this normal with the new system? Is anyone else still waiting this long? Her college decision deadline is coming up in 3 weeks and we have NO idea what kind of aid she'll get. Starting to panic a little here!!

same boat. submitted Jan 18 and nothing yet. this years fafsa is a nightmare

Have you tried calling them? I'm on day 4 of trying to get through to someone. Keep getting disconnected after waiting 45+ minutes!

You're definitely not alone! My son's application has been "processing" since January 12th. The colleges keep telling us to be patient because of the FAFSA delays this year, but his deposit is due May 1st and we need to know what his financial aid package looks like before making any decisions. This is so stressful.

Contact the financial aid offices directly at each school! Most colleges understand the FAFSA delays and many are extending their decision deadlines. Some are even making preliminary aid offers based on last year's info if you ask. Don't wait for the system - be proactive!

The Department of Education has acknowledged major delays with the 2024-2025 FAFSA rollout. Applications submitted in January should be processed by mid-April according to their latest update. The good news is that your application is at least showing as "processed" - many people's applications are still stuck in earlier stages. If your daughter's decision deadline is in 3 weeks, I recommend: 1. Contact each school's financial aid office directly and explain the situation 2. Ask if they'll extend her decision deadline due to FAFSA delays 3. Request a preliminary aid estimate based on last year's information 4. Document all communications in case you need to appeal later Most schools are accommodating these issues since it's affecting everyone.

Thank you! That's really helpful information. I'll definitely contact her schools this week. Do you happen to know if the "processed" status means they've actually calculated her SAI and just haven't sent it, or is it still being calculated?

" Processed usually means'they ve accepted all your information, but it'doesn t necessarily mean'they ve finalized the SAI calculation. Unfortunately, the status indicators on studentaid.gov'haven t been very reliable this year. Your best bet is still to call FSA directly to check your specificstatus.

Unfortunately this is the new normal with the so-called "simplified" FAFSA. My nephew submitted early January and just got his SAI last week. The whole system is broken and the Education Department keeps making excuses instead of fixing it. The real problem is they tried to roll out a completely new system without proper testing. Now millions of students are left in limbo while bureaucrats make excuses. YOU ARE RIGHT TO PANIC! Call every school immediately and explain the situation. Some will work with you, others won't. Document EVERYTHING. This may require appeals later.

exactly!!!! they keep saying "be patient" but our kids college futures are at stake. completely unacceptable

Financial aid counselor here! What's happening with your application is unfortunately common this year. When you see "processed" on studentaid.gov, it means they've accepted your information but may still be working on calculating your SAI score. Here are some actionable steps: 1. Contact each college's financial aid office (not the main admissions office) and explain your situation 2. Ask specifically for their "FAFSA delay accommodation policy" - most have created one 3. Request a preliminary aid package using last year's methodology if possible 4. Ask about deadline extensions - many schools have pushed decision deadlines to June 1 5. If they're unwilling to help, escalate to the Director of Financial Aid Colleges want your daughter to attend and most are creating workarounds for these FAFSA delays. Don't panic yet!

December? That's even worse than our situation. I heard they had to completely redo some of those earliest applications. Did you check if yours was part of that group that needed corrections?

UPDATE: Finally got through to FSA after using that Claimyr service someone mentioned! The agent confirmed our application is actually complete and the SAI has been calculated, but there's a delay in sending it to schools. She said we should see it in the portal within 5-7 days. I've also reached out to all three of my daughter's top schools and two have agreed to extend her decision deadline to June 1st if needed. The third school said they could provide a preliminary package by next week using last year's formula. Feeling much better now! Thanks everyone for the advice and support.

Great update! This is exactly the right approach. The schools know this isn't your fault, and most are being very flexible this year. Glad to hear you're making progress!
