Where do students find their processed FAFSA results? No email received
I'm confused about where my daughter can actually access her processed FAFSA results. The studentaid.gov site shows our 2025-2026 FAFSA has been 'processed' (we submitted about 3 weeks ago), but she swears she never got any email notification. She's panicking because her college deposit deadline is coming up and she needs her SAI score to compare financial aid packages. Should she be looking for this information somewhere specific on the FAFSA website? Is there a particular dashboard or section where the SAI and awards show up? I've been through the college process with my older son but that was years ago and everything seems different with this new FAFSA system.

Your daughter needs to log into studentaid.gov with her own FSA ID (not yours) and look for the 'Student Aid Index (SAI)' section. After logging in, she should go to her dashboard and click on 'View Student Aid Index.' The processed results aren't actually sent by email - the email just notifies that results are ready to view on the site. Also, make sure she checks the 'Financial Aid Review' section to see which schools the information was sent to. If her SAI has been calculated but not sent to her schools yet, she can request that from the same dashboard.

•Thank you - I'll have her check that specific section tonight. Is the SAI score the only thing she needs to look for, or are there other important pieces of information in there?

•Good suggestion - she already checked spam but nothing there. I'll tell her to check the website directly tonight.

The new 2025-2026 FAFSA system operates differently than previous years. Here's exactly what your daughter needs to do: 1. Log into studentaid.gov with HER FSA ID 2. Go to the dashboard and look for "Your FAFSA Status" 3. Click on "View Student Aid Index (SAI)" 4. She'll see her calculated SAI score and which schools have received it 5. There's also a "FAFSA Confirmation Page" PDF she can download Colleges receive the information electronically and will create their financial aid packages based on the SAI. She won't get an "award" from FAFSA itself - just the SAI number that schools use to determine her aid eligibility. If she needs to speak with someone at Federal Student Aid about missing information, the wait times are ridiculous right now (2+ hours). I recommend using Claimyr to get through to an agent quickly. It worked for me last week when I needed to resolve a verification issue. Just go to claimyr.com or check out their demo video: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME LOOKING FOR EMAILS!!! The dept of education is TERRIBLE at communication!!! My twins both applied in January and we're still dealing with this nightmare. The emails either never come or come weeks later. Just have her log in directly and check her status regularly.

•This wasn't my experience at all. My son got his SAI information by email within 5 days of submission. I think it depends on the complexity of your financial situation and whether there were any flags on the application. Some applications require manual review which delays processing.

•Well GOOD FOR YOUR SON but that's not what most families are experiencing!!! The new FAFSA is a DISASTER and everyone knows it. Just check the news!!!

I work in college financial aid and can confirm there's been massive confusion with the new FAFSA system. The important thing to understand is that your daughter won't get an "award letter" from FAFSA itself. The FAFSA just calculates her SAI (Student Aid Index), which replaces the old EFC (Expected Family Contribution). Colleges receive this SAI number and then create financial aid packages based on it. So she needs to: 1. Confirm her SAI has been calculated (on studentaid.gov) 2. Verify which schools have received her FAFSA data 3. Contact each school's financial aid office directly about her aid package If the schools show they haven't received her data yet, that's when she might need to call Federal Student Aid directly. But start with confirming what's in her studentaid.gov account first.

•This is such helpful context - thank you! She's been confusing me by talking about "receiving her FAFSA award" and now I see that's not even how it works. We'll check her account tonight and then follow up with the individual schools.

UPDATE: We figured it out! My daughter logged into studentaid.gov and found her SAI score right on her dashboard under 'Your FAFSA Status.' We also confirmed which schools received her information. Turns out she was confused about the difference between the FAFSA results and actual financial aid award letters from schools (which will come separately). For anyone else with this issue - definitely have your student check their actual account rather than waiting for emails. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Great news! And yes, that's the most common confusion - the FAFSA itself doesn't award money, it just provides the SAI that schools use to create their own aid packages. Glad you got it sorted out!

So glad to see this got resolved! This is exactly the kind of confusion I've been seeing with families this year. The new FAFSA system really doesn't do a great job of explaining the difference between getting your SAI processed vs. receiving actual financial aid awards from schools. For future reference for anyone reading this - once you have your SAI, you can also use the Federal Student Aid estimator tools to get a rough idea of what types of aid you might qualify for while you're waiting for official award letters from colleges. The timing this year has been particularly challenging with all the FAFSA delays, so don't panic if things seem to be taking longer than expected!
