FAFSA processed but no college notification emails - normal delay?
Hi everyone - feeling a bit lost in FAFSA-land here. My twins submitted their FAFSA applications about 5 weeks ago, and both show as 'processed' when we log into the studentaid.gov portal. However, neither has received ANY emails confirming their applications were sent to their selected colleges. Is this normal? The SAI scores appeared in their accounts about 3 weeks ago, but nothing since then. Should I be contacting someone, or is there a delay between processing and college notification? They've both applied to 6-7 schools each and need to make decisions soon based on financial aid packages.

•That's somewhat reassuring, thanks. Did your son have to wait long for the aid offers after his FAFSA was processed?

The lack of confirmation emails doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem. When a FAFSA shows as "processed" and you can see the SAI calculation, that typically means the information has been transmitted to the schools in their list. Each school has their own timeline for importing FAFSA data into their systems, and many don't send acknowledgment when they receive it. I recommend having your daughters check with each school's financial aid office directly to confirm receipt. They can usually do this through their student portals or by calling the aid office. Most schools should have received the information by now if it was processed five weeks ago.

•Thank you for this thorough explanation! I'll have them check their college portals today. Do you know if there's any way to see on the studentaid.gov site if the info was actually transmitted? I just want to make sure nothing's stuck in some digital limbo.

THEY ALWAYS DO THIS!! The system is so frustrating - they claim to have streamlined everything but then leave parents and students in the dark about the most important parts of the process. Last year my daughter's FAFSA sat in limbo for 2 months before we discovered her colleges never got it because of some random verification flag that NO ONE bothered to email us about!! Check your portal for any verification requirements ASAP!!

•Oh no, that sounds awful! We've checked and there aren't any verification flags showing up in their accounts, but your experience makes me nervous. Two months is a long time to wait only to find out there was a problem!

In my experience working with students, this is actually pretty common. The FAFSA system doesn't always send confirmation emails about transmission to colleges, even though it should. Here's what I recommend: 1. First, verify your daughters listed all colleges correctly in their FAFSA (check the school codes) 2. Look for the "Processed Successfully" status on studentaid.gov - if you see this and the SAI, data has likely been sent 3. Have your daughters log into each college's applicant portal - many will show FAFSA receipt status there 4. For any schools not showing receipt after 3-4 weeks, have them contact the financial aid office directly Schools typically begin sending aid packages 2-6 weeks after receiving FAFSA data, depending on their internal timelines.

I spent TWO HOURS on hold with FAFSA last week trying to figure out why my daughter's application wasn't showing as received at her dream school despite being processed. Finally gave up because nobody answered. Then yesterday we got an aid package from that school! So apparently it went through fine and the system just doesn't update correctly. These glitches are so stressful when your kid's future depends on this stuff.

•I've been dealing with similar FAFSA contact issues and finally found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an actual FSA agent in under 20 minutes instead of hours on hold. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ and their website is claimyr.com. Saved me so much frustration when I needed to confirm my son's application status after waiting weeks with no updates. Just sharing because I wish I'd known about it sooner!

To directly answer your question about seeing transmission status on studentaid.gov - unfortunately, the site doesn't explicitly show when data was transmitted to each school. When you see "Processed Successfully" and can view the SAI, the system has generally completed its work including data transmission. If you want absolute confirmation, having your daughters call each school's financial aid office is the most reliable approach. Most offices can tell you immediately if they've received the FAFSA data. Just be prepared with their full names, birthdates, and possibly their student ID numbers for each school.

•Thank you! We've started checking already. Two schools confirmed they received the information, still waiting to hear from the others. This is so helpful!

my daughter had this happen then found out later her fafsa got selected for verification so it was on hold and thats why no schools got it. check if u see a verification flag anywhere in their accounts?

•We double-checked and don't see any verification flags in their accounts, thankfully. But thanks for mentioning this - it's good to know what else could potentially cause delays.

Good news that you've confirmed receipt with two schools already! That suggests the FAFSA data was indeed transmitted successfully. The other schools have likely received it as well. One thing to note: colleges won't begin creating financial aid packages until a student has been accepted, so if your daughters are still waiting on admission decisions from some schools, those financial aid offices might not actively acknowledge FAFSA receipt until after acceptance. I've seen this process work smoothly hundreds of times even without confirmation emails, so try not to worry too much. The system is working as designed (if not as well communicated as we'd all like).

•That's a really good point about the acceptance timeline that I hadn't considered. They have been accepted to most of their schools already, so hopefully the aid packages will start coming in soon. Thanks for the reassurance!
