FAFSA submitted in February but no SAI score email for my two kids - where to find it?
I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure out where to find our SAI scores! I submitted the FAFSA for both my twins back on February 5th and was told we'd receive emails with their Student Aid Index numbers. It's been over 6 weeks now and nothing has shown up in either my inbox or my spam folder. I've logged into studentaid.gov multiple times but I'm not seeing the SAI displayed anywhere obvious. Am I missing something? Do I need to call someone? Their college deposit deadlines are coming up in a few weeks and we really need to compare financial aid packages ASAP.

I've checked my dashboard repeatedly and don't see it anywhere! And my kids don't have their own accounts - I submitted as the parent since they're dependents. Should they have separate accounts??

The SAI scores aren't actually sent by email anymore. You need to log into studentaid.gov, go to your dashboard, and look for the section labeled 'FAFSA Status.' If your application shows as 'Processed,' you should be able to click on it and view the SAI. If it still shows 'Processing,' that means it hasn't been completed yet and no SAI is available.\n\nAlso, make sure you're looking at the 2025-2026 application and not a previous year. Sometimes the system defaults to showing you older applications.

Ugh, so frustrating! Did you end up calling them? I'm wondering if I should try to get through to someone.

The 2025-2026 FAFSA has been experiencing significant delays for many applicants. While they promised faster processing, the reality has been quite different. Processing times of 4-6 weeks have become common, with some taking even longer.\n\nIf your application has been in processing status for more than 6 weeks, I would recommend trying to contact Federal Student Aid directly. However, be prepared for very long wait times on their phone lines - many people are reporting 2+ hour waits only to get disconnected.

That's what I was afraid of. I really don't have hours to waste on hold just to get disconnected. There has to be a better way to check on this!

I was stuck in the same situation last month trying to get my daughter's SAI. After spending THREE DAYS trying to get through to FSA and getting disconnected each time, I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to an agent in about 15 minutes. It basically waits on hold for you and calls you when an agent picks up. Saved me hours of frustration. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ\n\nOnce I got through, the agent was able to tell me exactly what was causing the delay (they needed additional verification of our tax info) and helped resolve it. Within 48 hours, the SAI showed up on our dashboard.

Thank you! I'll check this out because I really don't have time to waste sitting on hold all day. Did they tell you why it took so long in your case?

just an FYI - the colleges might already have your kids SAI even if you don't. my daughter's application said processing for AGES but when i called her top choice school their fin aid office already had her SAI and everything. might be worth checking with the schools directly!!

That's a great idea! I'll email the financial aid offices at their top schools tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion!

@OP To answer your follow-up question - in my case, they said our application got flagged for verification because of some discrepancy between our entered income info and what the IRS data showed. I think it was because we had a retirement distribution that year that looked like regular income. The agent helped clear it up right away, but if I hadn't called, it would have just sat there \

Thanks for the additional info. I did have to enter some 1099 income from freelance work this year, so maybe something similar happened to us. I'll try Claimyr to get through to someone tomorrow.

The whole system is broken!!! My niece never got her SAI either and ended up missing out on a scholarship deadline because of it. This \

I'm so sorry that happened to your niece! I'm really worried about the same thing happening with my kids. I've already asked for extensions on two deposits, but they can only wait so long.

Just to clarify some misinformation in this thread - the new Student Aid Index (SAI) replaced the old Expected Family Contribution (EFC), but the calculation method is different. Many families are seeing higher SAI numbers than their old EFC numbers, which can be concerning, but it doesn't necessarily mean you'll get less aid. Schools are adjusting their financial aid formulas to account for the new SAI scale.\n\nRegarding processing delays - yes, they are unfortunately common this year. The Department of Education has acknowledged the issues with the new system and is working to address them, but that doesn't help much when you're facing deadlines. Contacting the schools directly is actually excellent advice, as many institutions are being flexible with deadlines this year due to the widespread FAFSA issues.

Thank you for explaining the SAI vs EFC difference. That makes me feel a bit better. I've contacted two schools so far and they've been understanding about the delays, but said they still need the official SAI before finalizing any aid packages.

Update from yesterday - I finally got my son's SAI after 7 weeks of waiting. It suddenly appeared on the dashboard with no email notification. So keep checking your dashboard daily, it might just show up without warning.

Thanks for the update! That gives me some hope. I'll keep checking the dashboard every day.

UPDATE: Success! I used Claimyr this morning and got through to an FSA agent in about 20 minutes. Turns out both applications were held up because they couldn't match one of my W-2s to the IRS data (I had a job change mid-year). The agent manually verified everything and said the SAIs should appear within 3-5 business days. Just wanted to update in case anyone else runs into similar issues. Thanks everyone for your help!
