FAFSA parent signature page keeps redirecting to invite screen - can't complete application

I'm at my wit's end with the FAFSA website! My daughter completed her part of the 2025-2026 FAFSA last week. I logged in as the parent contributor and filled out my section, but now I'm stuck in a ridiculous loop. When I click on "provide signature" at the final step, the system keeps redirecting me to send a parent invitation again. If I try to send the invite (even though I'm ALREADY logged in), I get an error message saying "Unable to complete this action. Currently unable to complete this action. Exit the FAFSA form and try again." I've been trying since Friday - clearing cache, using different browsers, even tried on my phone. Nothing works! We're coming up on scholarship deadlines and I'm panicking. Should I file a formal complaint with FSA? Call someone? This is so frustrating!!

This exact thing happened to me last month! The signature page kept looping back to the invite screen no matter what browser I used. I ended up having to completely start a new FAFSA application and redo everything from scratch. Total waste of time but it finally worked.

Ugh, I was afraid of that. Did you have to have your kid start over from scratch too? Or just your parent section?

try loging out completely n then wait like 24 hrs before u sign back in. sometimes the system just needs to reset itself

I've actually given it 48 hours between attempts twice now... still getting the same error. 😞

This is a known issue on the studentaid.gov site related to the parent signature process. The system is experiencing a technical glitch that creates a loop between the signature page and the invitation system. Here's what you should try: 1. Clear your browser cookies specifically for studentaid.gov (not just cache) 2. Use a completely different device if possible 3. Make sure you're using the same FSA ID that received the initial contributor invitation 4. Try accessing during non-peak hours (early morning) If none of that works, you'll need to contact Federal Student Aid directly at 1-800-433-3243. Be prepared to explain the exact error message and what steps you've already tried.

Thank you for these detailed suggestions! I've tried the first three already but not during off-peak hours. I'll try early tomorrow morning. And if that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to spend hours trying to reach someone by phone...

I spent THREE DAYS trying to get through to FSA when this happened to me. Kept getting disconnected or waiting for hours. Finally used Claimyr.com to get through - they held my place in line and called me back when an agent was available. Saved me so much time! They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ showing how it works. The agent told me they're aware of the signature loop bug and had to manually reset something on their end to fix it.

wait is this a real service? seems kinda sketch to have someone else call financial aid for you

It's not someone else calling for you - they just hold your place in line and then connect you directly with the FSA agent when they're available. You do the actual talking yourself. Saved me from having my phone tied up for hours.

THE ENTIRE FAFSA SYSTEM IS BROKEN THIS YEAR!! Everyone I know is having problems with the parent signatures. The stupid Department of Education rushed out their "simplified" FAFSA and it's been NOTHING but problems. My kid might lose scholarships because of their incompetence!!! I've complained THREE TIMES and all they say is "we're aware of the issue" - THEN FIX IT!!!!!

While frustrating, filing multiple complaints won't speed up the process. The technical teams are aware of the issue and working on it. In the meantime, your student should contact their school's financial aid office directly to explain the situation. Most schools are being flexible with deadlines due to the widespread FAFSA issues this cycle.

Financial aid administrator here. This parent signature loop issue is affecting many families right now. A few technical details that might help: 1. The bug seems related to how the system validates parent FSA IDs during the handoff to the signature page 2. Sometimes the issue resolves if the student logs in, goes to the contributor section, and resends the invitation to the correct email 3. If you've tried multiple browsers/devices with no success, call FSA directly Important: Document everything! Screenshot the errors, note dates/times you attempted to complete the form, and record any reference numbers from calls. This documentation may be needed if your student needs to request deadline extensions from colleges.

Thank you so much for the insider perspective! I'll have my daughter try resending the invitation tonight. And great advice about documenting everything - I'll start taking screenshots of all these errors right away.

When I had this problem I ended up having to make a brand new FSA ID for myself (the parent). For some reason the system wouldn't recognize my original parent FSA ID even though I could log in with it fine. Super annoying but creating a new one fixed it.

Interesting! I hadn't thought of creating a new FSA ID entirely. Did you have any issues with your tax information transferring over when you made the new ID?

No it was fine! I used the same SSN obviously so when I did the IRS data retrieval it pulled everything correctly. Just make sure to use a different email address for the new FSA ID.

Update: FSA just released a fix for this specific parent signature loop issue yesterday. Try these exact steps: 1. Both student and parent should completely log out 2. Wait 30 minutes for system to reset 3. Student logs in first, navigates to the application but doesn't make any changes 4. Student logs out completely 5. Parent logs in and tries the signature page again This specific sequence seems to reset the handshake between accounts. Several families reported success with this method in the last 24 hours.

Oh wow, thank you for the update! We're going to try this exact sequence right now. I'll report back if it works!

IT WORKED!!! Following the exact sequence from @profile1 fixed the issue! The signature page finally loaded properly and I was able to complete and submit our FAFSA. For anyone else with this problem, follow those steps exactly - the order really matters. Thank you all so much for your help!

Great news! Glad it worked for you. For anyone else reading this in the future, if this sequence doesn't resolve the issue, don't hesitate to contact FSA directly - especially as deadlines approach.

So glad to see this issue got resolved! As someone who just went through the FAFSA process myself, I can totally relate to that panic when deadlines are looming and the system isn't cooperating. The step-by-step sequence that @f5e271ef49cd shared is golden - I'm bookmarking this thread in case I run into similar issues when helping friends or if we need to do corrections later. It's crazy how specific the logout/login order needs to be, but hey, whatever works! Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions here.

This whole thread has been so helpful to read through! I'm actually dealing with a similar issue right now where my parent keeps getting stuck in loops, so seeing the detailed solutions and knowing that others have gotten through this gives me hope. The community support here is amazing - everyone sharing their specific workarounds and @f5e271ef49cd providing those technical updates. Definitely saving this for reference too!

This thread is such a lifesaver! I'm currently dealing with the exact same parent signature loop issue and was getting so stressed about missing deadlines. Reading through everyone's experiences and solutions gives me a roadmap to follow. I'm going to try the specific logout/login sequence that @f5e271ef49cd shared first, and if that doesn't work, I'll move on to the other suggestions like creating a new FSA ID or contacting FSA directly. It's reassuring to know this is a widespread issue and not just something I'm doing wrong. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and helping each other out!

I'm so glad you found this thread helpful! I was in the exact same boat just a few weeks ago - that panic when you see deadlines approaching and the system just won't cooperate is real. The community here really came through with solutions. Definitely try that specific sequence first since it seems to have the highest success rate based on what people are reporting. And don't hesitate to document everything like @5f2b102f3c0d suggested - screenshots of errors, timestamps, etc. It really helps if you need to contact schools about deadline extensions. You've got this!
