FAFSA parent portal stuck on 'confirm your information' page with unknown error message
I'm at my wits end with this FAFSA parent portal error! My daughter completed her section of the 2025-2026 FAFSA application last week and sent me the invitation to complete the parent contribution. I received the email, clicked the link, successfully logged in with my FSA ID, but now I'm completely stuck on the 'confirm your information' page. Every time I try to proceed, I get an 'unknown error has occurred. Please try again later' message. I've tried: - Using different browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) - Clearing my cache and cookies - Waiting 24 hours and trying again - Logging out and back in It's been 4 days now and the deadline is coming up. Has anyone else encountered this specific error on the parent portal? Any solutions that actually worked? I can't even get to the section where I enter my tax information!

Same thing is hapning to me rn!!! My son sent me the invitation 3 days ago and I keep getting error messages on that exact same page! So frustrating when were trying to meet the priority deadline. Did you check if your FSA ID matches your social security #? I heard thats sometimes a problem

•Thanks for responding! I double-checked my FSA ID and social security number and they definitely match. I created my FSA ID years ago for my older daughter's application and haven't had issues until now. Maybe it's a system-wide glitch? Have you tried calling the support number?

This is a known issue with the new FAFSA system. The parent portal has specific validation requirements that sometimes conflict with previously stored FSA ID information. Here's what you need to do: 1. First, try accessing the portal through a private/incognito browser window 2. Make sure your name in the FAFSA system EXACTLY matches your name on your social security card (including hyphens, spaces, etc.) 3. Check if your email in the FSA ID system is verified 4. Try resetting your password completely If none of those work, you'll need to contact Federal Student Aid directly. They can manually verify your identity and push your application past that error point.

•Thank you so much for these detailed steps! I just tried incognito mode with no luck, and I've verified my email. The name matching might be the issue - I use my middle initial in some places but not others. I'll double check that and try the password reset next.

This error drove me INSANE last month!!! I ended up having to call FSA directly, and after being on hold for 2.5 hours, they told me it was because the birthdate my daughter entered for me on her section didn't match my actual birthdate in my FSA ID. Check with your daughter to see what birthdate she entered for you - even being off by one digit will cause this infinite error loop.

•Oh my gosh - that could totally be it! My birthday is the 19th but people sometimes accidentally write it as the 9th. I'll check with my daughter right now. But 2.5 hours on hold?? That's ridiculous... I've already tried calling twice and got disconnected both times after about 40 minutes.

I had a similar issue and discovered it was because I had a hyphenated last name but my daughter didn't include the hyphen when she sent the invitation. The system is incredibly picky about these details matching EXACTLY between what your child entered and what's in your FSA ID profile. One suggestion that worked for me: have your daughter log back into her FAFSA account and edit the parent information section. She can update your name/birthdate to match your FSA ID exactly, then re-send the invitation. That fixed it for us without having to call anyone.

•That's brilliant! I hadn't thought about having her edit my info and resend. I'll try that approach if the birthdate doesn't turn out to be the issue. Did you have to create a new FSA ID after she resent the invitation, or did you use your existing one?

•Interesting! I've only tried on my laptop. I'll definitely try using my phone instead - that's a good suggestion I hadn't considered. Thanks!

I struggled with this for days and finally got through to an agent using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a service that holds your place in the FSA phone line and calls you back when an agent is about to answer. Saved me hours of hold time. The agent confirmed it was a data mismatch between my FSA ID account and what my son had entered on his application. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ

•Thank you! I was just about to give up on calling altogether. I'll check this out - anything to avoid spending hours on hold only to get disconnected.

Just wanted to update everyone - I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET PAST THE ERROR! It turned out my daughter had entered my birthdate incorrectly (one digit off). She went back into her portion, corrected it, and resent the invitation. I was then able to get past the confirmation page with no errors. For anyone else experiencing this: definitely have your student double-check the parent information they entered. Even small discrepancies between what they entered and what's in your FSA ID profile will cause this error.

I'm dealing with the exact same issue! Been stuck on that confirmation page for 3 days now with the same "unknown error" message. Reading through these responses, it sounds like the birthdate mismatch is a really common cause. I'm going to check with my son immediately to see what he entered for my birthdate - I have a feeling that might be the culprit since people often mix up the day and month on mine. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and solutions here, especially @Nia Thompson for coming back with the update! Gives me hope that I can get this resolved without spending hours on hold.

•Welcome to the frustration club! I'm new to this community but dealing with the exact same problem. It's so reassuring to see I'm not alone with this error. Based on what everyone's shared, I'm going to start with checking the birthdate my daughter entered for me too - seems like that's been the solution for multiple people here. Fingers crossed it's something that simple! Thanks to everyone who's shared their troubleshooting steps, this thread is incredibly helpful for those of us stuck in FAFSA limbo.

I'm experiencing this exact same issue and feeling so relieved to find this thread! I've been stuck on that "confirm your information" page for 5 days now with the same unknown error message. After reading everyone's experiences, I'm convinced it's likely a data mismatch between what my daughter entered and my FSA ID profile. I'm going to have her check my birthdate first since that seems to be the most common culprit, and then verify my name formatting if that doesn't work. It's frustrating that such small discrepancies can cause these major roadblocks, especially with deadlines looming! Thank you all for sharing your solutions - this gives me a clear action plan instead of just randomly trying different browsers again.

•I'm so glad I found this thread too! I've been dealing with this exact same error for the past week and was starting to panic about missing deadlines. It's incredible how many of us are experiencing the identical issue with the parent portal confirmation page. After reading through all these responses, I'm definitely going to start with having my daughter double-check my birthdate in her application - it seems like that's been the magic solution for so many people here. @Omar Mahmoud I completely agree about how frustrating it is that tiny data mismatches can cause such major problems, especially when the error message is so vague! Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and creating such a helpful resource for those of us stuck in this same situation.

I'm so grateful to have found this thread! I've been battling this exact same error for 4 days now and was starting to think I was the only one. My son completed his FAFSA section and sent me the parent invitation, but I keep hitting that wall on the "confirm your information" page with the dreaded "unknown error" message. After reading through everyone's experiences here, I'm feeling much more optimistic - it sounds like the birthdate mismatch is the most likely culprit. I'm going to call my son right now to verify what he entered for my birthdate since mine is easy to mix up (people often confuse the month and day). Thank you all for sharing your solutions and creating such a helpful resource! It's reassuring to know there are actual fixes that work instead of just endlessly trying different browsers. Will update once I hopefully get this resolved!

•I'm in the exact same boat! Just joined this community because I've been pulling my hair out over this error for the past 3 days. My daughter sent me the parent invitation and I keep getting stuck on that same confirmation page with the "unknown error" message. It's so frustrating when you're trying to meet deadlines! After reading through this thread, I'm convinced it's probably the birthdate issue too - my birthday is easy to mix up since the day and month are similar numbers. @Ethan Wilson I hope you get yours sorted out quickly! This thread has been such a lifesaver - finally feel like I have a real action plan instead of just randomly trying different browsers over and over. Going to call my daughter right now to check what she entered for my info!

I'm experiencing this exact same issue and so relieved to find this thread! I've been stuck on that "confirm your information" page for 6 days now with the same "unknown error" message, and I was starting to panic about missing the deadline. After reading through everyone's experiences, it's clear the birthdate mismatch is the most common cause. I'm going to call my son right away to verify what he entered - my birthday is in December and I know people sometimes mix up 12/15 vs 12/05. Thank you all for sharing your solutions, especially those who came back with updates! This gives me so much hope that there's an actual fix instead of just endlessly refreshing the page. Will definitely report back once I (hopefully) get this resolved!
