FAFSA corrections portal finally working - got Mom's info and new school added!
After struggling for DAYS with the FAFSA corrections portal, it's finally working properly!! I've been trying to add my mom's tax/income information and add another school to my list since last Thursday, but kept getting error messages or the spinning wheel of death. The system would either freeze or log me out completely. Just wanted to let everyone know it seems to be fixed now! I successfully added all my mom's W-2 information and managed to add UC Berkeley to my school list this morning. If anyone else has been having trouble with corrections, try again today! 🙌

Thanks for the heads up! I've been having the exact same issue trying to update my parents' contribution information. The FSA website has been a complete nightmare this application cycle. What browser were you using? I wonder if that makes a difference with the corrections portal.

I was using Chrome at first which kept freezing, but then switched to Firefox and it worked much better! Not sure if that was coincidence or if it actually made a difference. Either way, I'm just glad I finally got everything updated before my school's priority deadline next week.

So glad it worked for you too! The whole system has been so frustrating. My financial aid counselor said they've been getting tons of calls about correction issues.

This is great information, thank you for sharing. The FAFSA corrections system often experiences high traffic periods that can cause these types of issues, particularly around key deadlines.\n\nFor anyone still experiencing problems, here are some troubleshooting tips:\n\n1. Try different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)\n2. Clear your browser cache and cookies\n3. Use a computer rather than a mobile device if possible\n4. Attempt corrections during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening)\n5. Make sure you're using the correct FSA ID login credentials\n\nAlso, verify that all the information you're adding matches exactly what appears on tax documents, as even minor discrepancies can cause processing issues with your SAI calculation.

I tried all those things and STILL couldn't get the stupid portal to accept my dad's updated tax info. The whole FAFSA redesign is a complete disaster this year.

For those who are still experiencing issues accessing the FAFSA corrections portal, I found a faster solution than waiting on hold for hours with Federal Student Aid. I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that held my place in line and had an FSA agent call me back directly. They helped me troubleshoot my correction issues over the phone and manually added my school changes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ\n\nSaved me hours of frustration after trying for days to fix my FAFSA corrections online.

Does that service actually work? I've been trying to call the FSA hotline for TWO WEEKS and either get disconnected or told the wait is over 2 hours. I'm desperate to get my parents' income information corrected because my current SAI calculation is completely wrong.

Yes! It worked for me when I was in the exact same situation. The agent was able to verify my identity and help me complete all my corrections over the phone. Much easier than fighting with the website.

Anyone else notice that even after making corrections, your SAI isn't recalculating right away? I added my dad's information three days ago, and my Student Aid Index still shows the old calculation. The FSA website says corrections are processed immediately, but that's obviously not true.

Mine actually updated pretty quickly (within a few hours). Did you get a confirmation email after submitting your corrections? If not, they might not have gone through completely.

I got the confirmation email but still no update to my SAI. Maybe I should try calling them... 😩

THE ENTIRE FAFSA SYSTEM IS GARBAGE THIS YEAR!!! I've been trying to make corrections since JANUARY and keep getting different errors every time. My financial aid package is on hold because they can't process my correct information. At this point I'm about to just give up on getting any aid this year.

I feel your frustration! The new FAFSA rollout has been catastrophic. Have you tried reaching out to your school's financial aid office directly? Sometimes they can help push corrections through on their end.

One important thing to note for everyone making corrections: if you're adding a parent/contributor who wasn't on your original FAFSA application, they'll need to create their own FSA ID and electronically sign the corrected FAFSA. Without their signature, your corrections won't be fully processed, and your updated SAI won't be calculated or sent to your selected schools.\n\nAlso remember that even after your corrections are processed, it can take your schools 1-2 weeks to receive and update your financial aid package based on the new information. If you're approaching a deadline, contact your school's financial aid office directly to let them know corrections have been submitted.

That's super helpful - thank you! I did make sure my mom created her FSA ID and signed the corrected application. Do you know if the schools get automatically notified of corrections, or do I need to contact each one separately?

Schools should automatically receive your corrected information, but it never hurts to email your financial aid office to alert them that you've submitted corrections. This is especially important if you're close to a financial aid deadline, as it gives them a heads-up to look for your updated information.

Wait I'm confused... I thought the corrections period didn't open until March for the 2024-2025 FAFSA? I submitted mine in January but can't find any way to edit it. Is the correction portal in a different place than the regular FAFSA site? Can someone share the link?

The corrections portal is accessible through your existing FAFSA account at studentaid.gov. After logging in, you should see an option to

Thank you! I see it now. It was hiding under the three dots menu on my dashboard. Appreciate the help!

does anyone know if adding more schools will change my SAI?? i'm worried that making ANY corrections might mess up my current number which is pretty low

Adding schools won't affect your SAI calculation. Your Student Aid Index is based solely on your financial information and family circumstances, not which schools you select. You can add up to 20 schools total, and it won't impact your aid eligibility at all.
