FAFSA verification completed but can't enter parent income information - help needed
I just got through identity verification on the FAFSA (finally!) but now I'm stuck at a new issue. When I try to enter my information as the student's mother, the system won't let me input my work income details. The page either freezes or gives me an error message saying 'Information cannot be processed at this time.' Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've tried using different browsers and clearing my cache but nothing works. My son's financial aid package depends on getting this application completed soon and we're getting desperate.

•I didn't even think about ad blockers! I'll try disabling them right now and see if that helps. Thank you!

I'm stuck in the EXACT same situation right now with my daughter's application. Identity verification cleared two days ago but the parent income section is completely broken. I called FSA three times and got disconnected each time after waiting 40+ minutes. This new FAFSA system is a DISASTER!!! Has anyone actually managed to speak with a real person about this??

•Try using Claimyr to get through to Federal Student Aid - it worked for me after days of trying to reach someone. You can skip the hold time and they call you when an agent is available. I watched their demo (https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ) and was connected to someone within 20 minutes. The agent was able to reset something on my account that fixed the parent income section issue. Their website is claimyr.com

This is a known issue with the parent contribution section in the new FAFSA system. When you reach the parent income page, there are two potential solutions: 1. Try accessing the FAFSA using Microsoft Edge browser in incognito mode - several users have reported this bypasses the error 2. If you have W-2 forms, use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool instead of manually entering income. Click the "Link to IRS" button at the top of the income section. 3. If neither works, you'll need to contact FSA directly to have them note your account for a manual review. Make sure to document the error with screenshots.

•Thank you for these detailed suggestions! I tried Edge in incognito mode but still getting the same error. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool sounds promising - I'll try that next. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to try contacting FSA directly.

when my sister did her fafsa 2 weeks ago she got stuck on something like this. turn out she was entering $ signs and commas in the income fields. the new system is super picky about formatting. try entering just the numbers with no special characters, maybe that'll help?

•That's a good point! I might have been using commas for the thousands. I'll try entering just plain numbers without any formatting and see if that works. Thanks for the suggestion!

I work at a college financial aid office, and we've been seeing this issue frequently. The problem is usually related to one of these situations: 1. Parent/contributor login credentials need to be fully verified with FSA ID before attempting to complete that section 2. There's a timing issue - sometimes you need to wait 2-3 days after identity verification before the parent income section will accept data 3. If you previously started an application and then the verification happened, you may need to start a new FAFSA application If none of those work, call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243. You might face long wait times, but they can fix these specific access issues.

•Thank you so much for this insider information! I did complete the verification and then tried to continue my existing application right away. I'll wait a couple days as you suggested before trying again. If that doesn't work, I'll try starting a fresh application.

Just to clear up some confusion here - identity verification and FSA ID verification are two different things. Identity verification is confirming you are who you say you are, while FSA ID verification means your email and phone are confirmed. Make sure BOTH you and your student have: 1. Created FSA IDs 2. Verified both email and phone for each FSA ID 3. Completed identity verification if prompted Only then can you successfully complete the parent income section. Also, the 2025-2026 FAFSA now requires both the student and one parent to have their own FSA IDs - is it possible you're trying to enter parent info under the student's login?

•This is really helpful clarification. I do have my own FSA ID that's verified, and my son has his. But I was trying to enter my information while logged in under my son's account (he started the application). Should I be logging in with MY FSA ID instead to enter my income info? The instructions weren't clear about that.

•That's exactly the issue! With the new FAFSA, parents need to log in with their own FSA ID to complete their section. Your son should start the application, then there will be a prompt for the parent to log in with their separate FSA ID to complete the parent information section. The system is designed to keep student and parent information separate now for security reasons.

i had this problem last month and wasted SO MUCH TIME. turns out i was using the wrong tax year info lol. make sure ur using 2023 tax info for the 2025-26 fafsa not 2024 tax stuff. they changed the year they use for the calculation with the new fafsa. if ur trying to use 2024 stuff thats probably why its rejecting it

•I'm definitely using 2023 tax information, so that's not the issue in my case. But that's a good reminder about the change in the tax year for the new FAFSA system. I know a lot of people have been confused by that change!

UPDATE: Problem solved!! It turns out I was supposed to log in with MY OWN FSA ID to enter my parent information, not continue through my son's login. Once I did that, everything worked perfectly. The new FAFSA system has each person (student and parent) log in separately with their own FSA ID to enter their respective information. That wasn't clear to me from the instructions. Thank you all for your help!

•Great to hear you resolved it! This is one of the biggest changes in the new FAFSA system that's causing confusion. For anyone else reading this thread: the 2025-2026 FAFSA requires separate logins for each contributor - students use their FSA ID to enter their information, and parents use their own FSA ID to enter parent information. This is different from previous years where everything could be done through one login session.
