FAFSA application won't submit after parent-child contributors setup - Need urgent help!
I'm completely stuck with my FAFSA application and getting desperate! I was initially flagged for verification, so I decided to start over. I deleted both my application and my son's application so we could start fresh with the correct contributor setup (me as his contributor and him as mine). But now when I try to submit my application, it gets stuck at the final submission screen! The progress bar just freezes at 95% and nothing happens. Has anyone dealt with this issue? We're approaching our school's priority deadline and I'm worried we'll miss out on financial aid. I've tried using different browsers, clearing cache, and even tried on my phone but keep hitting the same wall. Any advice would be SO appreciated!

omg this EXACT thing happened to me last month!! the system is so broken. i had to delete and restart like 3 times because of the contributor stuff. ended up being some weird glitch with how the system tracks your previous applications. what worked for me was waiting 48 hours after deleting before starting the new application. apparently the system needs time to fully clear everything out.

•Oh no, 48 hours?? Our deadline is in 4 days! Did you try calling the Federal Student Aid helpline? I've been trying but can't get through to a real person.

This is a common issue with the new FAFSA system, especially when you're trying to set up reciprocal contributor relationships. Here's what you need to do: 1. Make sure you're using different email addresses for each FSA ID (yours and your son's) 2. Check that neither account has any pending verification tasks from the previous applications 3. Try submitting during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening) 4. If you're getting stuck at 95%, check your email - sometimes there's a verification link sent that isn't clearly indicated in the application If none of that works, you'll need to contact FSA directly. The issue is likely that the system still sees a connection between your accounts from the previous applications.

•Thank you! We are using different email addresses but I didn't think to check for pending verification tasks. I'll look into that right away. I've been trying around 2pm which might be peak time. Will try again tonight. Really appreciate the detailed steps!

FYI - when u delete applications they dont actually get fully removed from the system for up to 72 hrs. its stupid but thats how it works. ive seen this happen to lots of ppl. sometimes u can call and they can force it to clear but good luck getting thru to anyone lol

•That's right. I work at a college financial aid office and we see this all the time. The FAFSA system maintains a cache of your information even after deletion. It's frustrating but intentional - prevents people from manipulating their applications repeatedly.

Had the same issue back in January. The problem is that when you delete applications, the system doesn't immediately remove all associations between accounts. Here's what worked for me: 1. Try submitting one application at a time with 24 hours between them 2. Make sure the first person to submit is the one who was NOT previously a dependent 3. Use the "Save and come back later" function between sections rather than completing it all at once If that doesn't work, you'll definitely need to speak with a Federal Student Aid agent directly. I was finally able to reach someone using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they got me connected to an agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent was able to manually clear the connection between our accounts on their end.

•Thank you so much for these specific steps! I'll try submitting mine first (I was the parent previously) and then wait 24 hours before my son submits his. If that doesn't work, I'll definitely check out Claimyr. At this point, I just need to speak to a real person who can help fix this!

THE ENTIRE FAFSA SYSTEM IS TRASH THIS YEAR!!!! I've been dealing with similar issues for WEEKS. They completely botched the rollout of the new system. When you delete applications, the database still keeps ghost records that interfere with new submissions. I've called over 20 TIMES and either get hung up on or wait 3+ hours. This is RIDICULOUS when people's college funding is on the line!!! Try reaching out to your school's financial aid office directly - sometimes they have special contacts at FSA who can help push things through the system. That's what finally worked for us.

hi! quick question - are u using the same device for both applications? my friend had this problem and it turned out her browser was saving some weird cache data even after she cleared it. she had to use a completely different device for one of the applications and it finally worked.

•That's a good point! I've been using my laptop for both. I'll try using my laptop for mine and have my son use his computer for his application. Thanks for the suggestion!

This is a known issue with reciprocal contributor relationships in the new FAFSA system. When you're both contributors to each other's applications, the system can get confused, especially if there were previous applications. From my experience working in financial aid, I would recommend: 1. Print a copy of your school's financial aid deadline documentation 2. Take screenshots of the error/freezing issue 3. Call your school's financial aid office ASAP and explain the situation 4. Ask if they can grant you a deadline extension while you resolve the technical issues Most schools are aware of the FAFSA system problems this year and have processes in place for extensions due to technical difficulties. They may also have direct contacts at Federal Student Aid who can help resolve your specific issue.

•Thank you! I'll call our school's financial aid office first thing tomorrow and explain the situation. I've been taking screenshots of all the errors, so I'll have those ready. Really appreciate the advice from someone with inside knowledge!

•Update: I followed the advice to try submitting during off-peak hours (5am!) and used different devices for each application. Mine went through but my son's is still stuck. I've contacted our school's financial aid office and they gave us a 2-week extension while we sort it out. Finally used Claimyr to reach an FSA agent who said there was indeed a 'ghost record' in the system. They're manually clearing it but said it could take 3-5 business days to fully process. Such a headache but at least we're making progress!
