FAFSA correction stuck in limbo - university says no transmission until next week
I'm freaking out a bit and need advice. My daughter submitted her FAFSA about 3 weeks ago, but we discovered an error in the retirement account reporting section. We submitted a correction online 10 days ago, but when I called Stockton University today, they said they received the initial FAFSA but not the correction. The financial aid counselor told me 'corrections aren't being transmitted yet' and probably won't be until next week. Has anyone dealt with this? Will this delay her aid package? Her enrollment deposit is due soon and we're trying to compare financial offers from different schools.

•How long did your school say you'd have to wait? I'm worried this is going to push everything back by weeks.

This is unfortunately a widespread issue with the 2025-2026 FAFSA. Many schools are only now receiving initial application data, and corrections are in a separate queue. The Department of Education announced they're prioritizing first-time submissions before processing any corrections. I work in financial aid at a different institution, and we're telling students that corrections might take 3-4 weeks to process right now. The good news is that most schools understand this timing issue and will work with you on deposit deadlines if you explain the situation.

•Thank you for this info. Do you think I should contact Stockton's financial aid office again to ask for an extension on the deposit deadline? Or is it better to just pay the deposit and then appeal the aid package once the correction comes through?

•I'd recommend contacting them directly about the deposit deadline. Many schools are offering extensions this year specifically because of FAFSA delays. Be prepared to document when you submitted the correction (screenshot from studentaid.gov). If they won't extend the deadline, ask if the deposit would be refundable if the corrected aid package makes another school more affordable.

When this happened to us last year, I spent HOURS trying to reach someone at Federal Student Aid to push the correction through. After getting disconnected multiple times, I found Claimyr.com which got me connected to an FSA agent in about 20 minutes. They have a demo of how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent I spoke with was able to flag our correction as urgent since it was holding up our aid package. The correction was processed in 48 hours after that call.

•Yes, it's legitimate. The service connects you with the actual Federal Student Aid phone line, but they handle the waiting so you don't have to stay on hold. The agent I spoke with was definitely a real FSA employee who had access to our FAFSA data.

•Thank you for this suggestion! I've been trying to call FSA directly but keep getting the 'high call volume' message. I'll check out this option if Stockton won't work with us on the deadline.

DONT PANIC! This is NORMAL this year with all the FAFSA changes. My son is at Stockton (sophomore) and the financial aid office there is actually really helpful compared to some other schools. They're just dealing with the same delays as everyone else. They extended his aid package timeline last year when we had a verification issue. Call and talk to someone specifically about your deposit deadline. They have been making accommodations for these FAFSA delays.

•That's so reassuring to hear! I'll definitely call them tomorrow about the deposit timeline. Did you find any particular person in the financial aid office there especially helpful?

•I'm worried that submitting another correction might push us even further back in the queue. The studentaid.gov account shows the correction as "processing" so I think it went through, it's just not being transmitted to schools yet.

I'm dealing with a similar situation but with a different problem. My son's university received our FAFSA but there's an issue with our income verification. We submitted additional documents three weeks ago and still nothing. The whole system seems backlogged. The most frustrating part is that every school seems to handle these delays differently. One school told us they'll issue a preliminary aid package based on the initial FAFSA while waiting for corrections, but another school (where my son wants to go) refuses to do anything until they have the final corrected version. It makes comparing offers impossible.

•That's exactly my concern! How are we supposed to make decisions without complete information? Did the school offer any flexibility on their enrollment deadlines?

•In our case, they extended the deposit deadline by two weeks, but that's it. And they made a point of saying it was a "one-time exception." So frustrating. Have you checked if your correction changed your SAI significantly? That might affect how flexible Stockton will be.

Just an update - I called Stockton's financial aid office directly this morning about a similar issue for my nephew. They told me they're aware of the FAFSA correction delays and ARE offering enrollment deposit deadline extensions on a case-by-case basis. You need to speak with a counselor though, not just the front desk staff. Ask specifically for an "enrollment deposit extension due to FAFSA correction delays.

•Thank you so much for this update! This is exactly what I needed to know. I'll call them first thing tomorrow and use that specific wording.
