FAFSA application disappeared after signature correction - some getting it back, others still waiting

Has anyone else had their FAFSA completely vanish after attempting to fix a signature issue? Our application disappeared 9 days ago right after trying to correct a missing parent signature. Now we're in this bizarre limbo - our top choice university just emailed saying our FAFSA is missing signatures, but HOW CAN WE SIGN SOMETHING THAT'S NOT EVEN THERE?! The application is completely gone from the studentaid.gov dashboard.\n\nI'm trying to figure out if there's a pattern to when these reappear:\n1. For those who recently had their FAFSA magically reappear, how long was it missing?\n2. Is anyone else still missing theirs? When did it disappear?\n\nAre they fixing these in submission date order? Alphabetically? I'm going crazy trying to figure this out and yes, I've tried multiple browsers, clearing cache, etc. This isn't a browser issue.\n\nUPDATE: We JUST got an email saying our application is incomplete and needs to be signed. When I logged in, our application magically reappeared! After 9 days of nothing! If yours is still missing, hang in there - they seem to be working through the backlog.

Mine disappeared for 6 days after trying to fix my mom's signature. Showed back up yesterday without warning. Logged in and suddenly it was just... there? I didn't get any emails though. This whole FAFSA remake is a complete disaster.

6 days seems faster than my 9 days. I wonder if they're going through them in batches. Did you contact them at all during that time?

Been missing for 12 days now. Tried calling FSA every day this week but can't get through - either get disconnected or told the wait time is over 2 hours. This is seriously affecting my ability to receive financial aid packages from schools. Has anyone had luck contacting them directly about this issue?

I used Claimyr to get through to an FSA agent about our missing application (was gone for 8 days). The service connected me to an agent in about 20 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own. The agent was able to see our application on their end and pushed it through to reappear on our dashboard that same day. Check out their site at claimyr.com or see how it works at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ - seriously saved us weeks of stress.

Thanks for the tip! At this point I'm desperate enough to try anything. After 12 days of checking every few hours, I'm losing my mind. My college counselor said this could delay my aid packages which is NOT what I need right now.

This is absolutely a system-wide FAFSA glitch affecting thousands of applicants. I work in financial aid at a university, and we're seeing this constantly. From what I understand:\n\n1. The signature correction issue triggers the application to go into a processing queue\n2. While in that queue, it disappears from the dashboard (poor design decision)\n3. They ARE working through them, but not in any obvious order we can determine\n4. The trigger for reappearance seems to be when the system batch processes your application\n\nMy advice: If it's been more than 10 days, call FSA directly. They can manually push it through in many cases. If less than 10 days, unfortunately just wait. Also, document everything with screenshots and dates in case you need this for appeals later.

Thank you for this insider perspective! That explains why it suddenly reappeared with the email notification. Do you know if universities are being flexible with financial aid deadlines given these widespread FAFSA issues?

Most universities are being extremely flexible this year because of the FAFSA redesign problems. We've extended our priority deadlines by a month, and many schools are doing similar adjustments. If you're concerned about a specific school's deadline, email their financial aid office directly - explain the signature issue and disappearing application. They'll likely work with you since this is a known system problem, not student error.

3 WEEKS??? Omg that's insane. Have you contacted your schools to let them know? I'm worried colleges will just assume we're procrastinating when it's literally impossible to submit!

I'm having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM but with a slightly different twist. Mine disappeared after fixing my dad's signature (he's my noncustodial parent), and it's been gone for 13 days. The really weird thing is that three of my schools have confirmed they RECEIVED my FAFSA data, even though I still can't see the form on studentaid.gov! How is that even possible??\n\nI've tried:\n- Logging in from different devices\n- Creating a new FSA ID (bad idea, made things worse)\n- Calling the hotline (gave up after 1.5 hrs)\n- Emailing (no response after 8 days)\n\nThis rollout has been a complete disaster!!! My SAI is probably completely wrong too since I couldn't verify all the tax info correctly. UGH.

Wait, your schools actually received your FAFSA data even though it's not visible to you? That's interesting! Maybe I should check with my schools directly. Did you contact their financial aid offices specifically?

Yeah, I emailed all my schools in panic mode and 3 out of 7 confirmed they received my FAFSA data. The others haven't responded yet. Definitely worth checking with your schools! Financial aid offices seem way more responsive than FSA right now.

My daughter's FAFSA was also missing for 8 days after a similar signature correction issue. It reappeared yesterday after I spent HOURS trying to reach someone. The most frustrating part is that we got conflicting information from every person we spoke to!\n\nOne agent said it was permanently deleted and we needed to reapply (NOT TRUE).\nAnother said it was just processing (TRUE).\nA third said there was no record of our application at all (DEFINITELY NOT TRUE).\n\nIf anyone else is facing this, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Names, dates, confirmation numbers. This system is broken and we need evidence for appeals if this affects aid eligibility.

I got the same conflicting info! One rep told me to start over, another said wait. This is my second kid going to college and I NEVER had these problems with the old FAFSA system. Why did they have to change everything?!?

GUYS!!! Important discovery - I found out from an FSA agent that there are actually TWO separate issues happening:\n\n1. The disappearing application after signature correction (what most of us have)\n2. A data processing error affecting certain 2022 tax info\n\nApparently the fix for #1 should be completed by February 12th according to the agent I spoke with. Those with issue #2 might take longer to resolve.\n\nAlso, they confirmed they're NOT processing in any particular order - it's based on which error batch your application got sorted into. That's why some people got theirs back quickly while others are still waiting.

This is super helpful info! Did they tell you how we're supposed to know which issue is affecting our application? And February 12th seems so far away with college deadlines approaching...

0 coins

No clear way to know which issue you have, unfortunately. The agent could only tell which one I had (the signature one) by looking up my specific application. And yeah, Feb 12 is their

DAY 16 AND STILL MISSING. I'M LOSING MY MIND. Called FSA again today and waited 2.5 hours only to be told

Contact your state grant agency directly! Most states are aware of the FAFSA issues and many are implementing workarounds or extensions. Some are accepting screenshots of your FAFSA confirmation number as proof of submission intent. Don't wait - reach out to them now and explain the situation.

has anyone tried starting a new fafsa application? my counselor suggested that but im scared it will mess things up even worse

Financial aid advisor here - DO NOT start a new application! This creates duplicate records in the system and can cause even longer delays. The original application is still in their system even if you can't see it. Starting a new one creates more problems and potentially flags your account for fraud investigation (multiple submissions).
