UPDATE: After 23 days of showing "Cannot compute SAI," my daughter's FAFSA finally processed completely! The SAI is now visible and her information has been sent to her schools. No explanation for the delay, no notification it was fixed - it just suddenly worked. So hang in there - it seems like they're slowly working through the backlog.
That's great news! 23 days is a long time though... I'm on day 12 now. Did you do anything to help move it along or literally just wait?
UPDATE FOR ANYONE WITH THE SAME ISSUE: Our "Cannot compute SAI" error finally resolved! It took 19 days total, but the SAI suddenly appeared this morning. I didn't do anything special - it just fixed itself. His school extended the housing deposit deadline by 2 weeks which was enough time thankfully. I wish the Department of Education would communicate better about these issues rather than leaving families in the dark, but at least it's resolved now.
Just to follow up on your question about timing - most schools understand the FAFSA transmission issues this year and are being flexible with their internal financial aid deadlines. However, it's still best to be proactive. Contact each school's financial aid office this week, provide the verification that your FAFSA is processed (screenshots), and ask them to manually retrieve the data. Also, double-check that your daughter's FSA ID is properly linked to her Social Security Number. Sometimes the DOB correction can cause authentication issues if there's any mismatch with SSA records.
We just contacted two schools already and you're right - they were very understanding! One school said they're dealing with this issue for dozens of students. They're going to try retrieving her information manually tomorrow. I'll make sure to check the FSA ID/SSN connection too. Thank you again for all this helpful information!
Quick update based on your situation: For the 2025-2026 FAFSA, the dependency override documentation requirements have changed slightly. You'll need: 1. Letters from TWO professional third parties (counselors, social workers, teachers, clergy) 2. A personal statement describing your situation 3. Any legal documentation (restraining orders, police reports, etc.) 4. Proof that you support yourself financially Under the new SAI calculation model, dependency overrides are being scrutinized more carefully, but they're also being granted more frequently for legitimate cases. Make sure all your documentation clearly shows that you have no financial connection to your parents and no ability to contact them.
Just wanted to share a happy update - our daughter's financial aid package populated this morning! About 5 days after the link first appeared. Got a decent Pell Grant amount and some work-study. Still waiting on the Wisconsin Grant amount to show up, but the big federal pieces are there. For anyone still waiting, hang in there!
My nephew had the same thing at UW-Parkside, blank link for two weeks then suddenly the full aid package appeared. He had to accept each part individually tho and almost missed the deadline because the email went to spam! Tell your kids to check spam folders for anything from the financial aid office!

quick question - did anyone notice if their aid amount changed after the system came back online? just wondering if they recalculate stuff during these updates??

•They typically don't recalculate your SAI during routine maintenance. However, if you submitted a correction to your FAFSA around the same time, or if additional verification was completed, you might see changes to your aid eligibility when the system comes back online.

UPDATE: My information is back! Just wanted to let everyone know that my dashboard and SAI calculation reappeared this morning. Looks like it was just maintenance after all. Thanks for all the helpful info and keeping me from totally freaking out!

•Great news! This is exactly what typically happens during maintenance periods. For future reference, StudentAid.gov occasionally posts maintenance schedules on their social media accounts, which can help you anticipate these temporary outages.
