WorkSource appointment requirement if just got job offer - still required by ESD?
I received a letter from ESD saying I MUST schedule a meeting with a WorkSource specialist by February 24th or I'll have to repay benefits (yikes!!). But I literally just accepted a job offer yesterday! The catch is I don't actually start for another 2 weeks. Do I still need to do this WorkSource appointment thing? Anyone dealt with this before? I really don't want to waste time with an appointment when I've already secured employment, but I definitely can't afford to repay benefits either. Help!

Congrats on the job! Yes, you absolutely still need to attend the WorkSource appointment until your actual start date. This is a mandatory reemployment service appointment (RESEA), and skipping it can make you ineligible for benefits you've already received. Even though you have a job lined up, you're technically still collecting benefits until you start working, so all requirements remain in effect.

•Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Do you know if I need to bring anything special to the appointment? The letter wasn't super clear about what to expect.

just bring proof of ur job offer!! print the email or whatever they sent u. they might let u off the hook when they see u already got work lined up. worked for my cousin last year

•This isn't accurate advice. While bringing proof of your job offer is a good idea, it doesn't automatically exempt you from the appointment requirement. The WorkSource specialists still need to verify your job search activities for the period you claimed benefits, and they may provide resources for your transition back to work.

Got a similar letter last month. Had the appointment yesterday and it wasn't bad at all! They just wanted to make sure I was actively job searching (which you were since you got a job) and helped set up some career resources. Only took like 45 mins of my time.

These WorkSource requirements are RIDICULOUS!! I had a job lined up too but they STILL made me go through with the appointment. Total waste of everyone's time. Just another way for ESD to harass people who are already struggling. The whole system is designed to make it as difficult as possible to get the benefits we've EARNED through our taxes!!

Just to share my experience - I was in your exact situation last April. Here's what you should do: 1. Schedule the appointment right away (they fill up fast) 2. At the appointment, bring your job offer letter with start date clearly shown 3. Let them know you've secured employment but haven't started yet 4. Still bring your job search log showing activities before you got the offer 5. They'll still conduct the full appointment but may tailor it to focus on retention resources rather than job search help They won't waive the requirement, but they'll note in your file that you've secured employment. The appointment itself is usually about 1 hour. Better to go than risk having to repay benefits!

I've had so many issues reaching ESD to get clarification on this exact situation before. If you're having trouble getting through to ESD to ask questions about requirements, I recommend trying Claimyr. I was stuck on hold for days trying to reach someone, but Claimyr got me through to an actual human at ESD in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Their website is claimyr.com. Saved me a ton of stress with my claim when I had a similar situation with WorkSource requirements.

•Yes, it worked for me! I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days. Got through to an agent and they confirmed I still needed to do the WorkSource appointment even with a job offer, but at least I knew for sure instead of stressing about it.

Wait I'm confused does this mean I should be doing these WorkSource things too?? I've been on unemployment for 3 weeks and nobody told me anything about appointments???

•Not everyone gets selected for the RESEA/WorkSource appointments. ESD randomly selects claimants for these mandatory meetings. If you haven't received a letter specifically requiring you to attend, then you don't need to worry about it. Just keep doing your regular job search activities (3 per week) and filing your weekly claims.

Update: I scheduled my appointment for tomorrow afternoon. Thanks everyone for the advice! I'm bringing my job offer letter, job search logs, and resume just to be safe. Will let you know how it goes in case anyone else finds themselves in this situation.

•Great move! I'm sure it'll go smoothly. They genuinely want to help with the transition back to employment, so try to use the appointment as an opportunity to ask any questions you might have about your benefits ending when you start your new job.

Final update: Had my appointment today and it went fine! The specialist congratulated me on my job, verified my past job search activities, and gave me some info about transitioning off benefits. She said I still need to report my job offer on my weekly claim, but once I start working and report earnings, my claim will close naturally. Thanks again everyone!

This is such helpful info for everyone! I'm bookmarking this thread because I know so many people get confused about WorkSource requirements when they're between getting a job offer and actually starting work. Your experience shows that ESD really does follow through on these mandatory appointments, but it sounds like the specialists are reasonable when you come prepared and explain your situation. Thanks for sharing the updates - it'll definitely help the next person who finds themselves in this spot!

•Totally agree! This thread is like a perfect case study of how to handle WorkSource requirements with a job offer. Really appreciate @Ravi Gupta taking the time to update us on how it went - saves so much anxiety for people in similar situations. The key takeaway seems to be: don t'try to skip it even with a job lined up, just go prepared and be upfront about your situation. Super valuable info for this community!

Just want to echo what everyone else is saying - this is exactly the kind of real-world guidance this community needs! I've seen so many people panic when they get that WorkSource letter, especially when they think having a job offer should exempt them. Your experience proves that going through with the appointment is the right move, even if it feels unnecessary. The fact that you came prepared with documentation and were upfront about your situation probably made all the difference. Thanks for taking the time to share the whole journey from start to finish!

•This whole thread has been so educational! As someone new to unemployment benefits, I had no idea about these WorkSource requirements. It's really reassuring to see how supportive everyone is here and how willing people are to share their experiences. @Ravi Gupta your step-by-step updates were incredibly helpful - I m'sure this will be a go-to reference for anyone facing the same situation. It s'great to know that even when the system seems confusing or frustrating, there are real people who ve'been through it and can offer practical advice!

This thread has been incredibly valuable! I'm new to this community and dealing with unemployment for the first time. Reading through everyone's experiences really helps demystify the whole WorkSource requirement process. It's so easy to panic when you get those official letters from ESD, especially when the language makes it sound like you'll owe money back if you mess up. But seeing how @Ravi Gupta handled it step-by-step and that the actual appointment was reasonable gives me so much peace of mind. I haven't gotten a WorkSource letter yet, but if I do, I'll definitely come back to reference this thread. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - this is exactly why I love being part of this community!
