What does 'processing web' status mean on ESD claim after returning from FMLA?

I just ended my FMLA on 3/15/25 and applied for unemployment right after. My claim shows 'processing web' status which I've never seen before (I was on unemployment briefly during 2020 but don't remember this status). Already had my waiting week processed, but I'm confused about what happens next. ESD rep told me I'm in adjudication for my second week because they need to review my doctor's release to return to work. The person said only one week would be affected by this review, but I'm not sure what that means exactly. Has the system changed recently? Can anyone explain what 'processing web' actually means and how long I should expect to wait? Trying to budget and getting nervous about bills coming up.

processing web just means they got ur claim online and its going through the system. not a big deal, but the adjudication part is what might slow u down. they gotta verify ur doctors note to make sure u can work now

Thanks for explaining! Do you know roughly how long adjudication takes these days? The rep wasn't clear about timeframes.

Processing" web is what shows up on claims that were filed online and are currently being processed through'ESD s automated system.'It s basically their way of saying your claim is in their queue but'hasn t been fully processed yet. The adjudication for your'doctor s release is a separate issue -'that s a manual review process. When they say only one week would be affected, they mean that only the week requiring the medical documentation review will be held up. Your subsequent weeks should process normally once'you ve cleared that hurdle. The system has changed significantly since the COVID era, including more automated verification steps. "The processing" web status'wasn t as common back then because they had different statuses during the pandemicprograms.

I had the same thing happen last month! Was on FMLA too!! The "processing web" changed to "processing" after about 4 days. Then I got stuck in that adjudication thing for my doctor's note for almost 3 weeks. So frustrating.

3 weeks?! I can't wait that long... did you do anything special to speed it up or just wait it out?

When I got stuck in adjudication after FMLA last year, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually reach a live ESD agent. They connected me directly to ESD instead of waiting on hold for hours. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. The agent I spoke with was able to see that my doctor's release form had been received but was sitting in a backlog. She flagged it for priority review and I got cleared within 2 days. Without that, I think I would've been waiting for weeks based on what the agent told me about their current backlog of medical documentation reviews.

I can confirm this is worth it when you're stuck in adjudication. ESD is severely understaffed right now, especially in the medical documentation review department. Getting to an actual person who can look at your specific case makes a huge difference.

my sister had somehting similar happen and her claim was stuck for 6 weeks!!!! the whole system is a JOKE and they make it impossible to talk to a real person on purpose!!! they're denying people money they deserve by delaying everything!!!! 😡

While the system definitely has problems, the delays are usually due to staffing shortages rather than deliberate attempts to deny benefits. Medical documentation reviews are particularly backlogged right now because they require specialized staff who can interpret medical records correctly. The best approach is to ensure all your documentation is submitted properly the first time. For the OP's situation with the doctor's release, make sure the document clearly states you're released for full duty work without restrictions, as that's what ESD is looking for specifically.

To answer your specific questions: 1. "Processing web" - This indicates your claim was received through the online system and is in the initial processing queue. It's a relatively new status indicator that was implemented in the 2024 system update. 2. Regarding adjudication for your doctor's release - When transitioning from FMLA to unemployment, ESD must verify you're able and available for work. This is standard procedure. The adjudicator reviews your medical release to confirm you no longer have the medical condition that required FMLA or that you've been cleared to work. 3. "Only one week affected" - This means only the week under review (your second week) will be held in pending status. Once the adjudication completes favorably, all subsequent weeks should process normally as long as you continue filing weekly claims. 4. Timeframe - Current adjudication for medical documentation is taking 2-3 weeks on average, but can be expedited if you contact them directly. Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims even while in adjudication. If you don't, you'll create more issues for yourself regardless of how the adjudication turns out.

This is so helpful, thank you! I'll definitely keep filing my weekly claims. My doctor's note clearly states I'm released for full duty work with no restrictions, so hopefully that helps speed things up.

They put EVERYTHING in adjudication now!!! It's not like during Covid when things were faster. Now they scrutinize every little detail. I think "processing web" just means they got your online application but haven't actually done anything with it yet. The whole system is designed to slow people down from getting benefits they deserve!

There's actually a reason for the increased scrutiny. During COVID, ESD was under pressure to process claims quickly which led to approximately $650 million in fraudulent claims. The current system has more verification steps to prevent fraud, which unfortunately means legitimate claims take longer to process. If you're coming off FMLA specifically, you will always go through adjudication because they need to verify your medical situation has changed and you're now able to work. This is standard procedure that protects the integrity of the unemployment system.

just FYI to everyone... when ESD does adjudication for medical stuff they have a special team that handles it. regular agents cant even access those cases. thats why it takes so long. my neighbor works at ESD and told me they have like 3 ppl reviewing ALL the medical documents for the whole state!!

Only 3 people?! No wonder it takes so long. That's really helpful context, thanks for sharing.

Hey Connor! I went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago when I came off FMLA. The "processing web" status is totally normal - it just means your claim was submitted online and is in their system waiting to be processed. It usually changes to just "processing" within a few days. For the adjudication part, make sure your doctor's release is super clear about being released for full duty work. Mine took about 2.5 weeks to clear, but I've heard it can vary a lot depending on how busy they are. The key thing is to keep filing your weekly claims even while you're waiting - don't skip any weeks or it'll create more problems later. One tip: if you uploaded your doctor's release through the portal, you should have gotten a confirmation. If not, you might want to call and make sure they actually received it. Sometimes documents don't go through properly and that can add weeks to your wait time.

Thanks Emma! This is really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the same thing. I did get a confirmation when I uploaded my doctor's release, so that's good. 2.5 weeks feels manageable - I was worried it might be months based on some of the horror stories I've been reading online. I'll definitely keep filing my weekly claims like you suggested. Did you have any issues once the adjudication cleared, or did everything go smoothly after that?

I'm going through something similar right now! Just filed my claim last week after coming off medical leave (not FMLA but similar situation). My status also shows "processing web" and I was confused about what it meant too. From what I've gathered reading everyone's responses, it sounds like the key is just being patient and making sure you keep filing those weekly claims. The adjudication process seems frustrating but necessary I guess. @Connor Murphy - have you tried calling early in the morning right when they open? I've heard that's the best time to actually get through to someone if you need to check on your case status. Might be worth a shot if you're getting anxious about the timeline. Good luck with everything! Hopefully we both get through this process smoothly.
