Week 5 of ESD adjudication with no answer - when will I get a decision or payment?
I'm completely lost in this unemployment process. I applied for UI benefits 5 weeks ago and I'm still stuck in the adjudication phase with absolutely no updates. I've submitted my weekly claims religiously every week, completed all the required 3 job search activities, and documented everything perfectly. It's been complete radio silence from ESD - I sent them a message through eServices over 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back. My savings are almost gone and I'm starting to panic about bills. Is this normal??? How long does adjudication typically take before they make a decision? Is there any way to actually get in touch with a real human at ESD who can tell me what's happening with my claim? I've never been on unemployment before so I have no idea if I'm doing something wrong or if this is just how the system works.

it depends on what ur claim is being adjudicated for. if its just verifying ur identity could be 2-3 weeks, if its something more complicated like they're checking with ur previous employer about separation reason it can take 6-8 weeks or even longer. did u check ur notices section on eservices? theres usually a letter explaining why ur in adjudication

•Thanks for responding! I checked my notices and there's nothing explaining why I'm in adjudication. My separation was pretty straightforward - company downsizing with 2 weeks notice. I submitted all the paperwork they asked for. How am I supposed to survive for 2 months with no income while they decide??

What you're experiencing is unfortunately common. The standard adjudication timeline right now is 4-8 weeks, though some claims are resolved faster. Here are a few things you should know: 1. Keep filing your weekly claims even without payment 2. Check your "Notices" tab AND "Letters" tab in eServices daily 3. Make sure you've uploaded any identity verification documents they requested 4. Verify your previous employer has responded to ESD's request for information If your claim was due to a layoff/reduction in force, adjudication usually moves faster than misconduct or voluntary quit cases. The best way to check your status is to actually speak with an ESD representative directly, though getting through on the phones is extremely difficult.

•Thank you for the detailed response! I've been checking both tabs daily and there's nothing new. It was definitely a layoff situation, not misconduct or voluntary. I've tried calling the number multiple times but either get disconnected or am on hold forever until they close for the day. It's so frustrating!

My adjudication took 7 WEEKS last year and then they denied me anyway!!! The whole system is designed to make you give up. They hope you'll just stop filing and go away. I appealed my denial and won but that took ANOTHER 6 weeks. ESD is the absolute worst government agency to deal with!!!! 😡

•Oh no, that's terrifying. I can't wait 7 weeks! Did you have any luck getting through to anyone during that time? What did you do for money while waiting?

•Good idea! Just checked and nothing there either. It really seems like they've completely forgotten about my claim.

I was in your exact situation in January. After 4 weeks of adjudication with no updates, I finally managed to get through to an ESD agent who solved my issue in 10 minutes - turns out there was a simple verification problem they needed to clear up. The biggest challenge is actually reaching someone at ESD. I eventually used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an agent within an hour after being unable to reach anyone for weeks. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Whatever you do, keep filing those weekly claims! If approved, you'll get backpay for all weeks properly filed, even during adjudication.

•Thank you! I'd never heard of that service before. At this point I'm desperate enough to try anything. Did they resolve your issue right away when you finally got through?

•It was a company-wide layoff due to downsizing. I was given two weeks notice and my manager even wrote me a recommendation letter. Nothing contentious about my departure at all.

I'm currently in week 4 of adjudication for a simple layoff too! This is ridiculous. Has anybody had luck contacting their state representative's office to help push things along? I've heard they can sometimes expedite ESD claims that are stuck?

•Yes, contacting your state representative can sometimes help with stuck claims. Provide them with your full name, contact information, and claim ID number. They have special channels to inquire about claim status. However, this usually works best for claims stuck beyond the normal timeframe (6+ weeks). At 4-5 weeks, you're unfortunately still within the standard adjudication window for 2025.

To follow up on my earlier comment - yes, when I finally got through to an agent, they resolved my issue immediately. The agent told me they had been waiting for verification from my previous employer, but they never received it. The agent was able to make some calls and verify my employment details right then, and my claim was approved the next day. Payments for all back weeks showed up in my account about 3 days later. Seriously though, the key is getting through to an actual person at ESD who can look at your specific claim details and take action.

•That's really encouraging to hear! I'll definitely try to get through to someone. It's crazy that they can just leave people hanging for weeks with no information or income.
