Washington ESD payment dates - what day do you get paid for unemployment benefits?
I just got approved for unemployment after waiting 3 weeks for adjudication and I'm trying to figure out when I'll actually receive my benefits. I filed my first weekly claim on Sunday and it shows as processed, but I have no idea what day of the week Washington ESD actually sends out payments. Does anyone know the schedule? I need to plan my bills around this.

Washington ESD typically processes payments on Tuesday/Wednesday and they hit your account Wednesday/Thursday depending on your bank. If you filed your weekly claim by Sunday, you should see it by Thursday.

•Thanks! So if I keep filing every Sunday I should get paid every Thursday?

•Pretty much, yeah. Sometimes there might be a delay if there's a holiday or system maintenance but that's the normal schedule.

Been on unemployment for 2 months now and I can confirm it's usually Wednesday or Thursday. But heads up - your first payment might take an extra day or two since it's your first time in the system.

•Good to know about the first payment delay. Did you have any issues with direct deposit setup?

Luca Ferrari
•Nope, direct deposit worked fine once it was set up. Just make sure your banking info is correct in your account.

If you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD to check on payment status, I found this service called Claimyr that helps you get through to an actual agent. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ and the website is claimyr.com. Saved me hours of trying to call.

•How much does that cost? I'm barely scraping by as it is.

•It's worth checking out their site for pricing info. For me it was better than spending entire days trying to get through on the phone.

•Interesting, I'll look into that if I run into issues. Right now I just need to know about normal payment timing.

make sure you file your weekly claim EVERY week even if you worked some hours. i forgot to file one week and it messed up my whole payment schedule

•What happened when you missed a week? Did you lose that week's benefits?
0 coins
Aisha Hussain
•you can still claim it but you have to call them to reopen the claim and it takes forever to get through

•You can also use the 'Report Late' option in your online account for missed weeks, but it's easier to just file on time every week.

Just a heads up that if you work any hours during the week, make sure to report them accurately on your weekly claim. Even a few hours can affect your benefit amount for that week.

•How do they calculate partial benefits if you work some hours?
0 coins
Ethan Clark
•They subtract 75% of your gross earnings from your weekly benefit amount. So if you made $100 that week, they'd subtract $75 from your usual benefit.

•That's actually not too bad, at least you still get something.

Wednesday is the magic day for me. I file Sunday night and money hits my account Wednesday morning like clockwork. Been unemployed since November and it's been consistent.

•Same here! Wednesday mornings I always check my account first thing.

•Okay so it sounds like Wednesday/Thursday is the norm. I'll plan accordingly.

Anyone else think it's ridiculous that we have to wait almost a week after filing our claim to get paid? Like we're already struggling and they make us wait even longer...

•I get the frustration but it's probably because they need time to process thousands of claims and verify the information.

•Still sucks when you're trying to buy groceries and pay rent

•at least it's consistent once you get in the routine

Pro tip: Set up text alerts in your Washington ESD account so you get notified when your payment is processed. Makes it easier to track.

Zara Shah
•Didn't know they had text alerts! Where do you find that option?
0 coins
NebulaNomad
•Log into your account and go to 'Profile' then 'Communication Preferences'. You can set up notifications for payments and other important updates.

Zara Shah
•Perfect, I'll set that up right now. Thanks!

If your payment is ever late or missing, don't panic right away. Sometimes banks have different processing times. I bank with a small credit union and my payments always come a day later than friends who use big banks.

Zara Shah
•Good to know. I use a major bank so hopefully I'll get the normal timing.

Carmen Ruiz
•Yeah you should be fine with a major bank. Just something to keep in mind if you ever switch banks while on unemployment.

Also worth noting that if you ever need to speak with someone at Washington ESD about payment issues, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier really does work. I was skeptical at first but it got me through to an agent in under 10 minutes when I couldn't reach them for days.

•I've heard mixed things about those callback services. Did they actually resolve your issue?
0 coins
Nia Wilson
•Yeah, they connected me to a real Washington ESD agent who was able to explain why my payment was delayed. Turned out to be a simple verification issue that got fixed right away.

Been getting UI for 6 months now and I can tell you holidays will mess up the schedule. Expect delays around major holidays when government offices are closed.

•Which holidays cause the biggest delays?

Andre Lefebvre
•Thanksgiving week was the worst for me. New Year's and Memorial Day also caused some delays. Christmas week wasn't too bad.

•They usually post notices on the Washington ESD website when there will be holiday delays, so check there if you're worried.

Sometimes there are system maintenance windows that can delay payments too. They usually do updates on weekends but occasionally it affects Monday processing.
0 coins
Zara Shah
•How often does that happen?
0 coins
Zoe Alexopoulos
•Maybe once every couple months? It's not super common but when it happens you might not get paid until Friday instead of Wednesday.

One more thing - if you ever have to reopen your claim after not filing for a while, your first payment after reopening might be delayed by a few days while they verify everything is still accurate.

Zara Shah
•Good to know. I'll make sure to file every week so I don't have to deal with that.

•Yeah, consistency is key with Washington ESD. The system works pretty smoothly if you just follow the routine.

For what it's worth, Washington ESD's payment schedule is actually pretty reliable compared to some other states I've heard about. My cousin in another state sometimes waits 2+ weeks between filing and getting paid.

Mateo Martinez
•Wow, that would be even worse. I guess we should be grateful for the weekly schedule.

Zara Shah
•True, 3-4 days isn't too bad when you put it that way.

Just make sure your address and banking info are always up to date in your account. I had a friend who moved and forgot to update his address, caused all sorts of payment delays.
0 coins
Zara Shah
•How do you update that info? Through the same online account?
0 coins
Mei Wong
•Yep, just log in and go to your profile settings. Super easy to update.

NebulaNomad
•And if you're moving, update it as soon as possible. Don't wait until after you've already moved.

I always file my weekly claim Sunday morning and get paid Wednesday afternoon. Set your expectations for Wednesday/Thursday and you'll be fine.

Zara Shah
•Sounds like that's the consensus. Thanks everyone for all the helpful info!

•No problem! The payment schedule is pretty predictable once you get used to it.

If you're ever worried about a payment, you can also check your 'Payment History' in your online account to see the status of recent claims.
0 coins
Zara Shah
•Where exactly is that in the account?

Liam McGuire
•After you log in, there should be a 'View Payment Information' or 'Payment History' link on the main page. Shows all your processed payments.

One last thing about getting help with Washington ESD - if you ever need to call them urgently about a payment issue, definitely consider using Claimyr. The regular phone lines are usually swamped, especially on Mondays and Tuesdays when people are filing their weekly claims.
0 coins
Zara Shah
•I'll keep that in mind if I run into any problems. Hopefully the payments will just come through automatically without any issues.

•That's the goal! Most of the time everything goes smoothly, but it's good to know your options if something goes wrong.

Welcome to the weekly routine! File Sunday, get paid Wednesday/Thursday, repeat. It becomes second nature after a few weeks.

•Looking forward to getting into that routine. This whole unemployment thing is new to me but everyone here has been really helpful.

•We've all been there! The Washington ESD system takes some getting used to but once you figure it out it's pretty straightforward.
