Starting new job Monday - Do I stop filing ESD weekly claims now or continue?
I've been on UI for about 7 weeks and just got hired! Starting my new job this Monday (full-time). I'm really confused about what to do with my ESD claims now. Do I just stop filing completely? Do I need to file one more claim and report that I found work? Is there some kind of formal notification I need to give ESD? The last thing I want is to accidentally commit fraud or have to deal with an overpayment later. The handbook isn't super clear on the exact protocol when you find a job. Anyone been through this recently who can tell me the right steps to follow?

•Thanks! So I just file for this week as normal, answer yes to the new job question, and then I'm done? I don't need to contact anyone or formally close my claim?

You need to report your employment status change properly to avoid possible overpayment issues later. Here's what to do: 1. File your weekly claim for this current week (the last week you were unemployed) 2. When asked if you've returned to full-time work, select YES 3. Enter the date you started working (next Monday's date) 4. Complete the rest of the claim normally, reporting any hours/earnings for this current week only After this final claim, your claim will automatically become inactive after two weeks of not filing. No need to formally close your claim - the system handles that automatically.

•this is exactly right! I started a new job in January and this is what I did. Just be super careful to report the EXACT start date. My friend got messed up because she reported starting work on Monday but actually did orientation the Friday before and had to deal with an overpayment mess.

•For part-time work, you'll need to continue filing weekly claims and report your hours and earnings each week. If you earn less than your weekly benefit amount, you may still qualify for a partial unemployment payment. The system will calculate this automatically based on what you report.

Whatever you do, MAKE SURE you keep filing until you actually start the job!!!!! I got a job offer and stopped filing immediately after the interview when they said I was hired, but then didn't actually start work for 3 weeks. ESD denied my backdated claims for those weeks because I "failed to file timely" even though I was 100% eligible. So keep filing until you actually start working!!!!!

•Yikes, that sounds awful! Luckily I only have a few days between getting the offer and starting, but thanks for the warning.

If anyone is having trouble reaching ESD for questions about this or other claim issues, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com). After trying for days to get through on my own, they got me connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 When I finished my last claim after getting hired, I had a question about reporting a signing bonus and needed to talk to someone. Claimyr was definitely worth it to get a clear answer directly from ESD.

•Do they actually work? I've been trying to reach ESD for 2 weeks about my adjudication and keep getting hung up on

•Yes, it worked for me after I wasted hours trying to get through on my own. The system connects you with ESD's actual phone lines but does the waiting/calling for you. When an agent is available, they call you back.

Just to clarify an important point that people sometimes get confused about: You need to report any hours worked AND earnings for the WEEK OF WORK, not when you get paid. So if you work Monday-Friday but don't get your first paycheck for two weeks, you still need to report those hours and estimated earnings on your claim for the week you actually performed the work. Also, if you have any pending issues on your claim, make sure to continue checking your ESD account for a few weeks after you stop claiming, as they might still need information from you to resolve those issues.

•That's really helpful, thank you! I'll make sure to report everything correctly for my last claim.
