Reactivated ESD claim approved but payments still pending - will benefit amount change?
Hi everyone, I'm feeling really confused right now. I got laid off on September 13th (after working for about 10 months) and immediately reactivated my existing unemployment claim from last year that expires November 9, 2025. Yesterday (Sept 30) I got a letter saying I was APPROVED, but my weekly claims from the last 3 weeks are still showing as 'pending' in the system. Nothing has hit my bank account yet. Looking at my claim summary, it shows: - Max benefits payable: $22,750 - Amount already claimed: $3,500 (from when I was on unemployment last November-December for 4 weeks) - Amount remaining: $19,250 - Old weekly benefit amount was $875 I'm stressing about two things: 1. If I was officially APPROVED yesterday, how much longer do I need to wait before money actually shows up in my account? 2. Will my weekly benefit amount remain at $875 like before since I'm using the same claim? Or will ESD recalculate it based on my most recent 10 months of work? Bills are starting to pile up and I'm getting really anxious. Anyone been through something similar recently?

Congrats on getting approved! When your claim is reactivated, you typically keep the same weekly benefit amount from your original claim ($875 in your case). Since you already received your approval letter, you should see payments within 3-5 business days for any weeks that don't have issues. The pending status could indicate they're still processing those weeks, or there might be something else they need to verify. One thing to check - have you completed all your job search activities and reported them properly on your weekly claims? If you miss reporting job searches, that could cause payments to be held up.

•Thanks for the fast reply! Yes, I've been doing 3 job search activities each week and recording them exactly as required. Do you think I should call ESD to see what's causing the delay? I've tried a couple times already but keep getting that automated message about high call volume.

I just went thru this in August. Took 11 days after my approval letter to get $$ in my account. They claim it's 3-5 business days but thats total BS honestly. Your benefit amount should stay the same since ur using the same claim period.

•11 days?! That's so long when you're waiting on money for necessities. Did they eventually pay you for all the weeks you claimed, or did they skip some?

When you reactivate a claim, you should receive the same weekly benefit amount as before, as it's based on your base year earnings when you first filed (which is why your claim summary still shows your remaining balance from the previous filing). As for the delay, your weekly claims show as 'pending' while they go through various automated verification processes. Even though you received approval for the overall claim, each weekly claim still needs to be processed. Here are a few potential reasons for the pending status: 1. Identity verification issues (though unlikely since you had a previous claim) 2. Employer response verification (your former employer has to confirm your separation reason) 3. Work search verification 4. System backlog If it's been more than 7-10 business days since your approval letter, it would be worth contacting ESD directly for clarification.

•Thanks for the detailed explanation. Makes sense they might be waiting for confirmation from my previous employer. They did tell me they were laying me off due to lack of work, so hopefully there's no dispute there. I'll give it a few more days before panicking!

wait so if u got approved doesn't that mean they already checked with ur employer?? my cousin had this happen and his problem was that he accidentally clicked something wrong on one of his weekly claims and they never told him, just left everything pending for like a month!

•Not necessarily. The initial approval often just means you're monetarily eligible (have enough work hours/wages in your base year). Employer verification can happen separately and sometimes takes longer, especially if they're slow to respond to ESD's inquiry about the separation reason.

If you need to reach ESD quickly about those pending payments, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation with approved claim but pending payments, and spent days trying to get through on the phone with no luck. Claimyr got me connected to an ESD agent in about 25 minutes. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 In my case, there was a simple flag on my account that the agent removed, and my payments processed the next day. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to get things moving!

•I was gonna suggest this too!! Used it last month when my claim was stuck for weeks. Expensive but worth it when ur bills are due and u can't wait anymore. Better than listening to that stupid message about high call volume 50 times a day lol

DONT PANIC YET! The ESD system is sooooo slow these days. My reactivated claim took almost 2 weeks after the approval letter before money hit my account. And yes, your benefit amount stays the same for the duration of your benefit year (until that Nov 9 date). If it helps, you can also try messaging them through your eServices account instead of calling. Sometimes they respond faster that way. Go to the "Send a message" option and select "Where's my payment" as the topic.

•Thank you! I'll try the messaging option today. I didn't even know that was available. And thanks for the reassurance about the timing - it helps to know other people have experienced similar delays.

I don't understand why they send approval letters and then make u wait MORE WEEKS for actual money. The whole system is designed to make people suffer i swear. I'm in week 6 of waiting for ANY money from my claim and have an eviction notice now. Approval letter came 3 weeks ago. This state is a JOKE.

•I'm sorry you're going through this. If you're facing eviction, make sure to mention that when contacting ESD - they have procedures to expedite payments in hardship cases. Also, connect with your local DSHS office about emergency assistance programs that might help while waiting for unemployment benefits to start.

Update: Just called ESD (miraculously got through!) and found out what was happening. They told me my payments were pending because they were waiting on my previous employer to verify the reason for separation. The agent put a note on my account to expedite the process, and said I should see payments within 48-72 hours if everything checks out. She also confirmed my weekly benefit amount remains at $875 since I'm on the same claim. What a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and advice.

•Nice! How'd you manage to get through to them? I always get stuck in that stupid phone menu hell.

•Pure luck I think! Called right when they opened at 8am and only had to wait about 30 minutes. The agent was actually really helpful once I got through.
