No movement after contacting governor's office about ESD claim - normal wait time?

I've been waiting forever for my ESD claim to move forward and finally got frustrated enough to contact the governor's office last Friday. The rep I spoke with just told me to 'watch the online portal' for updates. It's been 3 days now and absolutely nothing has changed. I'm seeing people on here saying they had movement within HOURS after reaching out to the governor's office, but my portal still shows the same status. Is this normal? How long did it take for others to see changes after contacting the governor? I'm honestly getting desperate as rent is due next week and I'm completely out of savings.

When I contacted the governor's office in January, it took about 5 business days before I saw any movement on my claim. Remember that weekends don't count as business days for ESD processing. What's your claim status showing right now? If it's in adjudication, those can take longer even with the governor's intervention. Also, if they just submitted an inquiry on Friday, the ESD staff probably didn't see it until Monday morning.

Thanks for responding! My claim says "pending - adjudication in progress" and has been stuck like that for almost 4 weeks. I guess I was hoping for a miracle after reading success stories here. I'll try to be patient for a few more days.

Well that's not encouraging! Did you ever get your claim resolved? What ended up working for you?

The governor's office can definitely help, but there are a lot of variables that affect how quickly you'll see results: 1. The specific issue with your claim (identity verification vs. employer dispute vs. job search requirements, etc.) 2. Current backlog at ESD for your particular issue type 3. Whether you've previously contacted them (multiple inquiries can sometimes slow things down) 4. How the governor's office categorized your case urgency In my experience working with claimants, adjudication cases typically take 2-5 business days to see movement after governor intervention, but some complex cases can take up to 10 business days. I'd give it until at least this Friday before getting too concerned.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! My issue is that my former employer is contesting my claim saying I quit (I didn't - they eliminated my position). I've uploaded all the documentation ESD asked for but no one has reviewed it yet. I'll wait until Friday and try to be patient.

When did u first file ur claim? I'm on week 7 of waiting and contacted governor 2 weeks ago. Still nothing. ESD is the absolute worst. Can't get thru on phones either.

I filed on March 12th, so just over 4 weeks ago. 7 weeks is ridiculous! Have you been able to get through to anyone at ESD at all during this time?

Nope! Phone just disconnects every time. Its insane that they can just hold our money hostage like this with no explanation.

I used Claimyr to reach an actual ESD agent after weeks of getting nowhere with my adjudication. It got me connected in about 25 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own and just getting disconnected. The agent was able to tell me exactly what was holding up my claim and pushed it through while I was on the phone. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 and their website is claimyr.com. Seriously a lifesaver when you're dealing with employer disputes because those can drag on forever if no one at ESD is actively looking at your documentation.

I might have to try this if I don't see movement by the end of the week. I've tried calling over 20 times and either get disconnected or told the wait is over 2 hours. Thanks for the suggestion!

The adjudicators are probably SWAMPED right now!!!! I know end of quarter (March) is always super busy with new claims from seasonal workers and stuff. I had to wait almost SIX WEEKS in adjudication last year even AFTER contacting the governor!!!! But eventually it did get approved and I got all my backpay in one lump sum which was actually kind of nice. Don't stop filing your weekly claims though! That's SUPER important because even though they're pending now, once they approve your claim they'll pay all those weeks at once if you've been filing consistently!!!!!

That's a good point about the end of quarter timing. I didn't think about that. And yes, I've been diligently filing my weekly claims and keeping detailed records of my job search activities. Thanks for the encouragement!

One last thing to consider - make sure you check your ESD portal messages and spam folder daily. Sometimes they send requests for additional information that can hold up your claim, and if you miss those messages, your claim will just sit there. Also, if you haven't already, check your "Decisions" tab in the portal. Sometimes they update the decision without sending a clear notification.

Just checked everything again - no messages (I check daily), nothing in spam, and no updates to the Decisions tab. It really is just sitting there with no movement. I'll keep monitoring and will update this thread if anything changes after contacting the governor's office.

my friend works at esd (not saying more than that) and says they're supposed to respond to governor inquiries within 48hrs but nobody gets in trouble when they don't. its all about which agent gets assigned to your case. some are good some dgaf

Quick update for everyone following this thread: ESD recently changed their processing priorities. They're now responding to governor's office inquiries within 3-5 business days for simple issues, but employer disputes like yours are taking 7-10 business days because they need to contact the employer for their side. This change happened in February 2025, so some older posts about getting immediate results after contacting the governor's office are no longer reflecting current timeframes.

That explains a lot! Thanks for the updated information. I'll adjust my expectations accordingly and give it the full 10 business days before trying other options.
