Need ESD phone number to check on pending claim - desperate after 2 weeks of silence
I've been trying to contact ESD about my unemployment claim for almost 2 weeks now and I'm getting really stressed out. My benefits were supposed to start on April 7th (2025) but I haven't received anything yet and my online account just says 'pending'. I know from past experience that calling is the only way to get answers but I can't find the right number to save my life! The website is so confusing and I've tried 3 different numbers already. Can someone PLEASE share the current unemployment claims phone number? I'm down to my last $275 and rent is due next week 😞

The main ESD unemployment claims center number is 800-318-6022. But honestly, it's nearly impossible to get through. They're open weekdays 8am-4pm, but the queue fills up within minutes of opening. Your best bet is to call exactly at 8am and keep hitting redial. Sometimes it takes me 50+ attempts to get in the queue.

•Thank you so much! I'll try calling right at 8am tomorrow. Did you ever have any luck getting through in the afternoon or is morning definitely better?

I was in the same situation back in January. My claim was pending for 3 weeks and I was freaking out. I called that 800-318-6022 number literally 100+ times over 3 days and NEVER got through. Finally I sent a message through eServices and they fixed it, but it took another week. The system is totally broken ugh

•That's what I'm afraid of... I've already sent 2 messages through eServices with no response. Did you do anything special in your message to get them to actually respond?

The main UI claims number is 800-318-6022 but it's completely overwhelmed right now because of the new system update they did in March. I was in adjudication for 3 weeks and couldn't get through no matter what time I called. I ended up using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that basically holds your place in line and calls you when they get an agent. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 It was the only way I could actually talk to someone at ESD. The agent I got was able to clear my pending issue in about 10 minutes once I explained the situation.

•is this for real?? seems kinda sketchy that there's a service just to call unemployment. how do u know its legit?

•Yeah, I was skeptical too at first but it's legitimate. They don't ask for any sensitive info - just your phone number so they can call you back when they get an ESD agent on the line. Washington's unemployment system is so broken that someone created a business just to help people get through. Sad but true.

I had this EXACT same problem last month! My claim was stuck in "pending" status for THREE WEEKS with no explanation. I almost lost my apartment. The phone system is completely useless - I called over 200 times and either got busy signals or the "call volume too high" message. What finally worked for me was emailing my state representative. I'm not kidding! I found my district rep on leg.wa.gov and sent a desperate email explaining my situation. Their office contacted ESD on my behalf and suddenly my claim was approved within 48 hours. Try it if you can't get through on the phone!

•That's actually a really smart idea I hadn't thought of! I'm in district 37, I think. I'll look up my rep right now. Thank you!!

the reason u cant find the # is becuz they dont want u to call them lolol. the whole system is designed to be impossible. i gave up after 2 months and found a job at costco instead. better than dealing with esd.

•Yeah it does feel that way sometimes... glad you found a job but I really need these benefits. I've been applying everywhere but nothing yet.

Just to add to my earlier comment - if your claim says "pending" that usually means there's an issue that requires adjudication. The most common reasons are employment separation issues (if they need to verify why you left your job) or availability issues (if they're checking that you're able and available for work). If you can get through on the phone, ask specifically about what's causing the pending status and if there's anything you can do to resolve it faster. Sometimes there are documents you can upload or information you can provide that will speed things up. I went through this in February and my claim was stuck for 5 weeks before I finally got it resolved. The system is definitely overloaded right now.

•This is super helpful info, thank you! I quit my last job because my manager was creating a hostile work environment (documented in emails) and I told them that when I applied. Maybe that's what's causing the hold up? I'll definitely ask about that if I can get through.

•Yes!! I ended up using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above and got through to ESD yesterday. Turns out they needed additional documentation about why I left my last job. The agent helped me upload the right documents and said my claim should be processed within 72 hours. Fingers crossed!
