How to file an appeal for unemployment online Washington ESD - step by step help needed
My unemployment claim got denied last week and I need to file an appeal but I'm completely lost on how to do this online through Washington ESD. The denial letter mentions I can appeal online but doesn't give clear instructions. I've been looking all over the Washington ESD website and can't figure out where to actually submit the appeal form. Has anyone successfully filed an appeal online recently? What's the exact process and where do I go on their website?

You'll need to log into your SecureAccess Washington account and look for the appeals section. There should be a link in your account dashboard after you get the denial notice.

•I'm logged in but I don't see any appeals link anywhere. Is it under a different menu?

•Try looking under 'Correspondence' or 'Messages' - sometimes the appeal option shows up there after you receive the denial.

The online appeal system can be really confusing. I spent hours trying to figure it out when my claim got denied for job search issues.

•Did you eventually get it figured out? I'm worried about missing the deadline.

•Yeah but it took calling them multiple times to get clear directions. The website isn't very user friendly for appeals.

I used Claimyr to get through to someone at Washington ESD when I was having trouble with my appeal filing. They have a service that helps you reach actual agents instead of waiting on hold forever. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Really saved me time when I needed to get specific instructions for the online appeal process.

•Is that service legit? I've never heard of it before but I'm desperate at this point.

•Yeah it's real, I was skeptical too but it actually worked. Got connected to an agent who walked me through exactly where to find the appeal form online.

•How much does something like that cost? I can't afford to pay a bunch of money just to file an appeal.

From what I remember, you need to go to the main Washington ESD unemployment page, log into your account, then look for 'Appeal a Decision' or something similar in the menu. The exact wording changes sometimes but it should be there somewhere.

•I've looked everywhere and I swear that link doesn't exist in my account. Maybe it's because my denial was recent?

•Could be. Sometimes there's a delay before the appeal option shows up in your online account.

UGH the Washington ESD website is THE WORST for this stuff. I had to mail in my appeal because I couldn't figure out the online system either. Such a pain.

•How long did mailing it take? I'm worried about the 30 day deadline.

•I sent it certified mail to make sure they got it on time. Took about a week but at least I had proof of delivery.

Make sure you're looking in the right place - it's not always obvious. After you log in, check under 'Claim Status' and see if there's an appeals section there.

•Just checked and there's nothing under claim status either. This is so frustrating.

Another option is to call the appeals line directly at 800-318-6022. They can help you file over the phone if the online system isn't working for you.

•I've tried calling that number like 20 times and it just hangs up on me every time. The phone system is even worse than the website.

•Same here - that number is impossible to get through on. I gave up after trying for 3 days straight.

That's exactly why I ended up using Claimyr - the regular phone lines are completely jammed. With their service I got through to an actual person who could help with the appeal process instead of just getting hung up on repeatedly.

•Ok I'm definitely going to check that out then. This is too important to mess up.

Just want to add that you absolutely NEED to file within 30 days of the denial date or you lose your right to appeal. Don't let the crappy website or phone system make you miss that deadline.

•Thanks for the reminder. I got the denial 5 days ago so I still have time but not much.

Sean Murphy
•Yeah don't wait. Even if you have to mail it in as a backup, at least you'll meet the deadline.

Try accessing your account from a different browser or device sometimes that helps with the Washington ESD website glitches

•Good idea, I'll try that tonight from my laptop instead of my phone.

When you do find the appeal form, make sure you include ALL the documentation that supports your case. Don't just write a brief explanation - give them everything you've got.

•What kind of documentation do you mean? I have my termination paperwork and some emails.
0 coins
Anastasia Popov
•Exactly - termination paperwork, any emails or texts from your employer, witness statements if you have them, basically anything that proves your side of the story.

I filed my appeal last month and it took forever to get a hearing scheduled. Just be prepared for a long wait even after you get the appeal submitted.

NeonNinja
•How long did it take to get your hearing date?
0 coins
Yuki Sato
•About 6 weeks from when I filed the appeal to when I got the hearing notice. And then the actual hearing was scheduled 3 weeks after that.

Does anyone know if you can still collect benefits while your appeal is pending? Or do you have to wait until it's resolved?
0 coins
Anastasia Popov
•No, you can't collect benefits while the appeal is pending if your initial claim was denied. You only get benefits if you win the appeal and then they backdate it.

Luca Ferrari
•That sucks. So you could be waiting months without any income while they sort it out.

Try looking for 'Protest/Appeal' in your online account - that's what it was called when I had to file mine a few months ago.

•Still not seeing anything with that name either. I wonder if they changed the system recently.

The Washington ESD website gets updated pretty frequently and they move stuff around without telling anyone. That's another reason why talking to an actual agent through Claimyr was so helpful - they knew exactly where everything was located on the current version of the site.

•Yeah I'm starting to think that might be my best option. Thanks for the suggestion.

Make sure you save copies of everything you submit for your appeal. The Washington ESD system has been known to lose paperwork.

•Good point. I'll screenshot everything and save all the confirmation numbers.

If you absolutely can't find the online appeal option, you can download the appeal form from the Washington ESD website and mail or fax it in. Not ideal but it works.

NeonNinja
•Where on the website is the downloadable form? I haven't seen that either.

•Look under 'Forms and Publications' on the main Washington ESD page. It should be listed there as an appeal form.

I hope you get this figured out OP. The appeal process is stressful enough without having to fight with their website too.

•Thanks, I really appreciate all the help from everyone here. At least I have some options to try now.

One last tip - if you do get through to someone on the phone, ask them to email you written confirmation of what they tell you about the appeal process. That way you have it in writing if there are any questions later.

NeonNinja
•That's smart advice. I'll definitely ask for that if I can get someone on the phone.

Good luck OP! Don't give up - appeals can be won if you have good documentation and present your case well.

•Thank you! I'm going to try the Claimyr service tomorrow morning and see if I can get some real help with this.
