ESD job search requirements for full-time college students - how to report when option disappeared?
I'm currently enrolled full-time at WSU and recently lost my part-time job. I filed for unemployment and got approved, but I'm having trouble with the weekly job search reporting. When I log in to submit my weekly claim, there's no longer an option to enter my job search activities! Last week it was there, but now it's gone. As a full-time student, I know I still need to complete 3 job search activities each week, but the system isn't giving me anywhere to report them. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried my benefits will get cut off if I can't prove I'm looking for work. Do I need to call ESD about this or is there a different way to submit job searches as a student?

•I don't think I'm on standby. Nothing in my approval letter mentioned that, and I wasn't laid off with a return date. I'm pretty sure I still need to do the job searches as a student.

This happened to me last semester. The system sometimes automatically puts full-time students into a different category, and the job search reporting section disappears. You definitely still need to do your 3 job search activities every week, but you'll need to track them separately. Call ESD immediately to clarify your status. Make sure to explain you're a full-time student who was not granted a job search exemption. They need to fix this on their end. In the meantime, keep detailed records of all your job search activities (date, employer name, position, application method, contact info, etc.). You might need to provide these later if they audit your claim. Also, check your correspondence in eServices - they sometimes send notices about changes to your claim requirements that explain what's happening.

•Thank you so much! I'll start keeping records right away. I've been trying to call ESD for two days but can't get through. Do you know if there's a specific number for student-related issues?

The same thing happened to me!!! It's SO FRUSTRATING!! I called ESD like 47 times over 3 days and never got through. When I finally did, they told me it was a glitch in the system affecting some student accounts. They had to manually fix it on their end. Keep calling!!!! And yes, DEFINITELY keep doing your job searches and document everything - dates, companies, positions, how you applied, everything. If they audit you later, you'll need proof.

•If you're having trouble getting through to ESD (which is common), you might want to try using a service called Claimyr. I was stuck in a similar situation and couldn't get through for over a week. Claimyr helped me connect with an ESD agent within about 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Their website is claimyr.com. Much better than spending days trying to get through on your own, especially when you need to fix something urgently like job search reporting.

You know what's weird, my daughter is at Western and had the exact opposite problem. She IS on standby (returning to her campus job next quarter) but the system kept asking her for job searches anyway! ESD systems are seriously messed up when it comes to student claims. You definitely need to talk to someone to sort this out.

•standby and student status are two completely different things in the ESD system! your daughter should double check if her standby was actually approved, sometimes employers say theyll bring you back but dont file the proper paperwork with ESD

Full-time students are still required to complete and document 3 job search activities every week unless you've been specifically granted a job search exemption or placed on standby status. Here's what's likely happening: 1. The system may have automatically categorized you incorrectly due to your student status 2. There might be a pending decision about your job search requirements that hasn't been communicated yet 3. There could be a technical issue with the weekly claim filing system I strongly recommend: - Continuing to perform and document your job searches (save screenshots, emails, application confirmations) - Check your "Decisions" section in eServices to see if there's any pending adjudication about your student status - Call the ESD technical support line (not the regular claims line) at 855-682-0785 as they can sometimes help with interface issues In the meantime, you can submit your weekly claim without the job search information, but be prepared to provide it retroactively once the issue is fixed.

•Thanks for the detailed advice! I checked my Decisions section and there's nothing pending there. I've been trying the regular line but will try the technical support number instead. Do you know if I'll need to fill out any special forms as a student?

I had success using Claimyr to reach ESD when I couldn't get through on my own after days of trying. Found out that students sometimes get flagged in the system for a review of their availability for work, and during that time the job search reporting section might disappear. The agent fixed it for me on the spot. Worth checking out if you're still having trouble getting through: claimyr.com. Their video demo shows exactly how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

Just to add some clarity about students and unemployment requirements: 1. Being a full-time student doesn't automatically exempt you from job search requirements 2. However, your student schedule can affect your "available for work" status 3. Make sure you've accurately reported your school schedule when filing your claim 4. ESD might conduct a special review for students to determine if your studies restrict your availability If ESD determines your school schedule significantly limits when you can work, they might adjust your job search requirements or determine you're not eligible. This review process could be why your job search reporting section disappeared temporarily.

•Excellent points. I'd also recommend the OP check whether they filled out the "Training Benefits" application by mistake. That's a completely different program that can cause confusion with regular UI claims for students. Training Benefits has different requirements than standard unemployment.

Update: I finally got through to ESD! It turns out there was a flag on my account for a student review, which temporarily removed the job search reporting option. The agent confirmed I still need to do my 3 job searches weekly and reactivated the reporting section. She also added a note to my account showing I've been compliant. For anyone else having this issue: keep detailed records of ALL your job searches even if you can't report them online. I've been taking screenshots of all my applications and saving them with dates. The agent said this was smart and would protect me in case of an audit. Thanks everyone for your help! What a stressful experience.

•Great news! Glad you got it sorted out. ESD can be such a maze to navigate, especially for students. Thanks for updating us!
