ESD adjudication since 4/26 - Do document upload checkmarks ever disappear?
Super frustrated with my claim right now. I was suspended from work on February 21st (union-related issue) and my shop steward told me to file for unemployment while it gets sorted out. I've done everything right - filed immediately, claimed every week, and now I have 5 WEEKS of claims all stuck in 'pending' status. The ESD website finally shows I'm in adjudication as of 4/26, but I'm confused about the document upload section. Under 'Upload Documents' it shows 'Separation from job' with filing period 2/24. I already uploaded the suspension email from my supervisor proving everything, but that upload prompt is still sitting there. Is it supposed to disappear once they review it? Or does it just stay there forever even after they've seen it? This is my first time on unemployment and the waiting is killing me. I've got bills piling up and can't get a straight answer from anyone.

The document request doesn't go away even after you've uploaded. It's super confusing! I had the same issue during my claim last year. As long as you've uploaded what they asked for, you should be fine. The adjudication process is taking FOREVER these days - mine took almost 6 weeks before they made a decision. Keep filing your weekly claims while you wait!

•Thanks for letting me know! That's a relief. I was worried I needed to keep re-uploading the same document over and over. Did you ever call them to check on your claim? I'm wondering if that would speed things up or just waste my time.

•Really? Ugh, maybe I should try uploading it again. So frustrating that there's no way to know if they actually received it or not.

I've worked with the ESD system extensively, and I can clarify a few things: 1. The document upload request will remain visible regardless of whether ESD has received your document. It does NOT disappear after successful upload. 2. If you've already uploaded the requested document, you don't need to upload it again unless specifically instructed by an ESD agent. 3. Adjudication is currently taking 5-7 weeks for separation issues. Since you're in a union-related suspension situation, they likely need to verify with your employer whether you're eligible for benefits during this period. 4. Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims while in adjudication. 5. Since you mentioned it's been since 4/26 that you've been in adjudication, you're probably approaching the end of their typical timeline for decisions.

•Thank you for such a detailed explanation! That makes me feel better about not uploading multiple copies. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process at this point? I've already waited over a month.

If you want to speed things up, you should contact ESD directly, but good luck getting through on their phone lines. I spent TWO WEEKS trying to call them every single day about my adjudication and could never get past the recording saying they were at capacity. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me skip the phone queue and actually talk to a real ESD agent. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I got through to an actual person, they were able to tell me what was holding up my claim and moved it forward within days. Worth considering if you're desperate like I was.

•Yes, it actually worked for me. I was skeptical too but after trying to call ESD myself for two weeks straight, I was willing to try anything. I got connected to an agent within an hour, and they explained exactly what was happening with my claim.

Had the EXACT same thing happen when I was on standby!! The upload document thing NEVER goes away. It's just their system being stupid. As long as you can see the document in your uploaded documents section, you're fine. Don't waste your time uploading more copies! Just wait for adjudication to finish. BTW my adjudication took 8 weeks in 2024 so far, so prepare yourself mentally. They are SUPER backed up since they laid off half their staff after the pandemic.

•8 weeks?! That's insane. I can't wait that long. My union rep said this suspension should only last a couple months at most, so by the time they approve my claim, I might be back at work. What a joke.

•I tried calling ESD about 50 times and NEVER got through. Complete waste of time. The phone system is broken.

Something important to note - since you mentioned this is a suspension rather than a traditional layoff, your case might have additional complications. ESD often treats suspensions differently depending on the reason. If the suspension is for misconduct, you might be disqualified. But if it's due to a labor dispute or union-related issue where you're not at fault, you should be eligible. Make sure you've clearly documented the nature of the suspension. The adjudicator will likely contact both you and your employer to get statements, which is part of why it takes so long. The union connection adds another layer of complexity they need to investigate. As for the document upload question - I work with unemployment cases regularly, and those prompts DO stay in the system even after successful upload. It's just poorly designed UI. As long as you can see your document in the "Uploaded Documents" section, you're fine.

•That's really helpful - thank you! My suspension is definitely not for misconduct. It was part of a broader temporary action affecting several union members during contract negotiations. Do you think I should upload something from my union rep explaining this too? Or wait for ESD to ask for more information?

•If you have a letter from your union rep explaining the situation, it would definitely be helpful to upload that as additional documentation. The more evidence you can provide upfront showing this is not misconduct-related, the better your chances of avoiding unnecessary delays. Label it clearly when uploading so the adjudicator can easily identify its relevance.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that I took the advice to call ESD directly. After being unable to get through for three days, I tried the Claimyr service mentioned above. Got through to a real person in about 35 minutes! The agent told me my claim was actually just waiting for one final verification from my employer, who hadn't responded to their requests. They're sending another request and said if my employer doesn't respond within 48 hours, they'll make a determination based on the information they already have. Fingers crossed this gets resolved soon! Thanks for all the help.

•That's awesome! Please update us when you get a decision. I'm still waiting on mine and getting really frustrated.

•This is exactly why contacting them directly can be so valuable - often there's just one small hold-up that can be quickly addressed. Glad you were able to get through and get some answers!
