Called Governor's office after 6 weeks in adjudication - ESD finally paid my claim!

After being stuck in adjudication hell for 6 weeks with ZERO communication from ESD, I finally got desperate enough to call the Governor's office yesterday. My claim had been sitting with no movement since January 28th, and I was about to miss my second rent payment. The person I spoke with took down my info and said they'd contact ESD on my behalf. I was skeptical but literally THIS MORNING I woke up to find my payments had been processed overnight - all $4,250 backdated to when I first applied! If you're stuck waiting for months like I was, don't just sit around hoping - the Governor's office actually seems to have some pull with ESD. My landlord and credit card companies weren't willing to wait any longer... why should we have to?

omg thank u for posting this!!!! ive been stuck for almost 5 weeks now and getting desperate. did u just call the main number on the governor website? did they ask for any specific info?

Yes I used the main constituent services number. They asked for my name, contact info, claim ID number, and a brief description of the problem. They seemed pretty used to these calls. The woman I spoke with said they're seeing a lot of adjudication delays right now. Good luck!

This is a useful tip, but it's important to understand that the Governor's office can help with moving claims through the process when they're stuck, but they can't change the actual adjudication decision. A few additional options to resolve stuck claims: 1. Contact your state representative or senator's office - they have constituent services that specifically handle ESD issues 2. Verify your eServices portal doesn't have any pending action items requiring your response (many people miss these) 3. Ensure all your quarterly job search activities are properly documented The main issue right now is that ESD is severely understaffed in the adjudication department, which is why these claims are taking 6-8 weeks instead of the normal 2-3 weeks. The system is designed to eventually process all claims, but external pressure from elected officials can definitely move yours to the front of the queue.

ive called my state rep 3 times and all they do is "make a note" on my account. doesnt help at ALL!! the governors office sounds like they actually DO something!!

I've been telling people this for MONTHS!!!! ESD is a DISASTER and they don't care about us at all. They'll let you wait for MONTHS while your life falls apart. I was in adjudication for 11 WEEKS when my identity verification got flagged for no reason!!! Called the governor's office and magically my issue was resolved in 3 days. THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW THIS WORKS!!! The system is BROKEN BY DESIGN!!!

11 weeks?? That's insane! I thought my 6 weeks was bad. Glad you finally got it resolved. The crazy thing is that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my claim - no missing documents, no eligibility issues, just sitting there.

ya this works sometimes but not always. my cousin tried it and still waiting 3 weeks later. guess it depends who u get or how backed up they are

Your cousin should follow up with the Governor's office again. Sometimes they need a gentle reminder. When I worked with cases like this, one contact wasn't always enough - especially if the claim has multiple complex issues. Also, make sure they're checking their ESD portal daily for any requests for information.

Another option that worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to ESD directly. After trying for weeks to call ESD with no luck (constant busy signals or getting hung up on after waiting), I tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me through to an ESD agent in about 40 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zE?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 I needed to speak directly with an agent because my issue was complicated (worked in two states during my base year). The agent was able to fix something in my file that was causing the adjudication delay. Different approach than contacting the Governor, but worked well in my situation where I needed to explain something specific.

Thanks for sharing this! I actually tried calling ESD about 30 times before contacting the Governor. Either got a busy signal or the automated system would just hang up on me after saying they were experiencing high call volume. Will keep Claimyr in mind if I have issues again.

Does anyone know if this works for appeals too? I got denied and filed an appeal 3 weeks ago but haven't even gotten a hearing date yet.

Appeals are handled by the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), not directly by ESD, so the process is a bit different. For appeals, you should contact OAH directly at 855-928-1253 if you haven't received a hearing date within 4 weeks of filing your appeal. The Governor's office might still be able to help, but they'd be contacting a different department.

Thanks! Hope you get yours soon. Definitely try the Governor's office if you've been waiting more than 3-4 weeks.

This is a useful tip that many claimants don't know about. A few points of clarification from someone who handles these cases: 1. The Governor's office doesn't actually process your claim faster; they submit what's called a "legislative inquiry" to ESD, which flags your claim for immediate review by a specialist. 2. This works best for claims stuck in processing limbo, not for claims with legitimate adjudication issues that need resolution. 3. The current adjudication backlog is approximately 4-6 weeks, which is actually improved from last year's 8-10 week backlog. 4. Always check your ESD portal first for any pending issues that might require your input. For those who prefer to speak directly with ESD but can't get through on the phones, state WorkSource offices can sometimes help, or services like Claimyr that help connect you with agents.

This is super helpful info! One question: if I have an "adjudication in progress" message, does that mean someone is actually working on my claim or just that it's sitting in a queue somewhere?

thanks for sharing!! just called them and they took all my info. hope it works for me too!!

Hope it works out for you! Let us know if you see any movement on your claim in the next few days.
