Anyone know how to get ESD claim expedited through Governor Inslee's office?
I've been stuck in adjudication hell for over 7 weeks now and I'm getting desperate. My rent is due next week and I have literally $46 in my account. Someone at WorkSource mentioned that you can contact Governor Inslee's office to get your claim expedited if you're facing hardship, but they didn't have details on how to actually do this. Has anyone successfully gotten the Governor's office to help move their claim along? What contact info did you use? Did it actually work? I've called ESD like 130+ times and either get disconnected or they just tell me 'it's in process' with no timeline. HELP!!!

•Ugh seriously? That's so frustrating. Did your cousin ever get his claim resolved?

I did have some success with this approach last year, but it wasn't directly through the Governor's office. What worked for me was contacting my state representative. Go to leg.wa.gov and look up who represents your district. Their offices have constituent services staff who can sometimes intervene with ESD on your behalf. When I did this, they asked me to fill out a form authorizing them to inquire about my case, and within 10 days, my adjudication was completed. Make sure to explain your financial hardship clearly in your message to them. The more specific you are about your situation (facing eviction, unable to afford medications, etc.), the more likely they'll prioritize your case.

•Thank you SO MUCH for this info! I'm going to look up my rep right now. Did you email or call them? I'm wondering which would get faster results.

•I emailed first with all my details (claim ID, when I applied, the specific issue, and my hardship), then followed up with a call the next day to make sure they received it. The email gives them all the info they need in writing, and the call helps ensure it doesn't slip through the cracks.

THE GOVERNORS OFFICE WONT HELP YOU!!! They just send you back to ESD who OBVIOUSLY doesn't care if we all end up homeless!!! I tried this in March and wasted 2 weeks waiting for help that never came. The whole system is designed to make you give up.

•That's awful! Did you ever get your issue resolved? I'm getting really scared about making rent.

•BARELY. I had to borrow money from family and max out credit cards. My claim finally got approved after 11 WEEKS but by then I was already 2 months behind on bills. No explanation for the delay either. They just don't care.

I was in a similar situation about 3 months ago - 9 weeks in adjudication with no movement. What actually worked for me was using Claimyr.com to get through to an ESD agent. It costs money, but it was the only way I could actually talk to a human at ESD without spending days redialing. The agent I spoke with was able to see there was a missing document on my file that was holding everything up, but nobody had bothered to tell me. Once I submitted that, my claim was processed within days. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Also, if you're facing potential eviction, mention that to the ESD agent. There's a hardship flag they can add to your claim in extreme circumstances.

•Wait, they can add a hardship flag? Nobody ever told me that! I'm going to try Claimyr today - at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything. Thanks for the tip!

Have u tried going to ur local worksource office in person? My friend got help that way when her claim was stuck for like 2 months. The ppl there have direct lines to some ESD staff I think

•I actually started at WorkSource (that's who told me about the governor thing). The staff was nice but they said they couldn't directly help with claims in adjudication - just gave me the same ESD number everyone else has. Maybe it varies by location?

Hi there! Former WorkSource employee here. There are several escalation paths for claims stuck in adjudication: 1. State Representatives/Senators: As someone mentioned above, they can often get results through their constituent services staff. 2. ESD Ombuds Office: They handle complaints and can sometimes expedite claims if there's clear hardship. Phone: 855-682-0465 or online at https://esd.wa.gov/newsroom/ombuds 3. Hardship Flags: This is real, but can only be added by certain ESD staff. You need to reach an agent and specifically mention that you're facing imminent eviction, utility shutoff, or inability to afford necessary medications. Documentation helps. 4. Commissioner's Office: This is a last resort but can work. Email Commissioner.Office@esd.wa.gov with your claim ID, last 4 of SSN, and specific hardship details. The Governor's office itself isn't typically directly involved with claim expedition - that might be what the WorkSource person was trying to explain about the state representatives, who are part of the legislative branch. Keep documenting all your calls and contact attempts - this helps if you need to prove you've been trying to resolve the issue.

•This is INCREDIBLY helpful! Thank you so much for all the details. I'm going to try the Ombuds office tomorrow morning and also email my state rep. I really appreciate you taking the time to lay all this out!

•Happy to help! One more tip: wherever you reach out, be clear, concise, and factual about your situation. Avoid venting frustrations (even though they're completely valid) and focus on the specific facts: when you applied, current status, what communications you've received, and the specific hardship you're facing. This helps them categorize and address your case more efficiently. Hope your claim gets resolved soon!

Wanted to clarify something - I work for ESD (not speaking in any official capacity). The Governor's office doesn't directly expedite claims, but they do sometimes forward constituent concerns to our Commissioner's Office, which can flag claims for review. The most effective routes right now are: 1. Your state legislators (as others have mentioned) 2. The ESD Ombuds Office 3. Getting through to an agent who can see if there's a simple issue holding up your claim And yes, hardship flags do exist in our system, but they require specific criteria and documentation. The agent needs to verify the hardship meets certain thresholds. Also, make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims while in adjudication. I've seen too many people stop filing because they think it doesn't matter until adjudication is complete, but then they lose those weeks of potential benefits.

•Thank you for the insider perspective! I have been filing my weekly claims religiously, so at least I'm doing that right. Quick question - is there any particular day/time when it's easier to get through on the phone lines?

•Generally, Tuesday through Thursday tends to be slightly better than Mondays or Fridays. Early morning (right when lines open) or mid-afternoon (around 2-3 PM) sometimes has shorter wait times. But honestly, it's still difficult regardless of timing. The callback feature works when available, but it fills up quickly each day.

UPDATE: I wanted to let everyone know what worked! I tried several of the suggestions here. The Ombuds office took my info but said it could be 5-7 business days before they could look into it. I also contacted my state rep's office yesterday morning with all the details about facing eviction. THIS WORKED!! I got a call this afternoon from an ESD supervisor who said my case was expedited after the legislative inquiry. Apparently there was a simple question about my last employer that was holding everything up. She processed my adjudication on the spot, and my account now shows the payments as pending! THANK YOU all so much for the advice - especially about contacting my state representative. You literally saved me from eviction. I'm going to cry from relief.

•That's fantastic news! So glad it worked out for you quickly. The legislative route is often the most effective for exactly this reason - they have established channels with ESD's leadership team. Congratulations!
