Adjudication wait time is threatening my mortgage - ESD taking too long?
I've been stuck waiting for an adjudication decision from ESD for over 7 weeks now and I'm seriously freaking out. My mortgage payment is already 2 months behind ($3,800 total) and the bank is sending threatening letters about foreclosure proceedings. When I check my eServices account it just says 'adjudication in progress' with ZERO explanation. I call ESD literally 30+ times a day and either get disconnected or the automated message says 'too many callers, try again later.' I've sent four messages through the portal and haven't gotten a single response. I honestly don't understand what's taking so long. I was laid off from my construction supervisor job when the project funding fell through - it wasn't my fault! I uploaded all the requested documents weeks ago. The anxiety is making me physically sick at this point. Has anyone gone through this recently? How long did your adjudication take? Is there ANY way to speed this up? I'm desperate and about to lose everything I've worked for.

I went through this last month and it was AWFUL. Took 9 weeks for my adjudication to finish! The system is completely BROKEN and nobody at ESD seems to care that people are losing their homes waiting on them. I was about to be evicted when they finally approved my claim. The most frustrating part is they never explain WHY it takes so long!!! Make sure you're still filing your weekly claims even while you wait - I almost messed that up and would have lost benefits.

•9 WEEKS?? Oh my god, I don't think I can make it that long. Yes, I'm still doing my weekly claims religiously. Did you ever manage to reach an actual human being at ESD during your wait?

•11 weeks is insane! Did they at least backpay you for all that time?

The adjudication process is taking longer than usual right now because of the new verification system ESD implemented in early 2025. Most claims are being resolved between 6-10 weeks, but I've seen some take up to 12 weeks if there are complexities or employer disputes. While you're waiting, make sure you: 1. Continue filing weekly claims without fail 2. Check your eServices account daily for any requests for information 3. Keep detailed records of all your job search activities (3 per week) 4. Contact your mortgage company about hardship programs - many have options to delay foreclosure if you can show you're waiting on unemployment benefits Also, call WorkSource and ask about emergency assistance programs. Some counties have rent/mortgage assistance you might qualify for while waiting.

•Thank you for the helpful information. I had no idea about the new verification system - they don't explain any of this! I'll call WorkSource tomorrow. My mortgage company hasn't been very sympathetic so far but I'll try again and specifically mention the unemployment situation.

•I've tried opening time, mid-day, right before closing, different days of the week... nothing works. It's like winning the lottery to get through to anyone.

I was stuck in adjudication for 8 weeks last quarter, and what finally worked for me was using Claimyr to reach an actual ESD agent. I was skeptical at first but was desperate after weeks of failed call attempts. The service connected me to an ESD rep within about 30 minutes, and they were able to tell me exactly what was holding up my claim and how to resolve it. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The website is claimyr.com - seriously worth it when you're facing something as serious as potential foreclosure. The agent I reached was able to escalate my adjudication when I explained my housing situation.

•I've never heard of this service before. Did they actually help speed up your adjudication? I'm willing to try anything at this point.

•I tried that Claimyr thing too and it worked but didn't really speed up my claim. But at least I got to talk to someone who confirmed they had all my docs and nothing else was needed from me. That peace of mind was worth it.

The ENTIRE adjudication system is designed to make people give up!!! They hope you'll just walk away and not get the benefits you EARNED. It's CRIMINAL how they treat us. I filed a complaint with my state representative's office and magically my claim started moving a week later. TRY THAT!!!

•That's a great idea about contacting my state rep. I hadn't thought of that. I definitely feel like the system is working against us.

I know you're focused on the adjudication wait, which is definitely frustrating, but have you looked into requesting standby status? If your construction job will be restarting within 8 weeks, you might qualify for standby status, which means you wouldn't have to do the job search activities. This won't speed up adjudication but might help with one less stress factor. Just a thought.

•Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately my employer completely lost the contract so there's no job to return to. I'm actively searching for a new position but the construction industry is really slow right now.

Just to update you on some recent information - ESD released a statement yesterday about working through a backlog of adjudication cases. They're prioritizing claims that are over 8 weeks old and cases where claimants have indicated housing instability. I'd recommend updating your claim with information about your housing situation by sending a secure message through eServices. Be specific about the foreclosure risk and include dates. This might help get your claim prioritized. Also, Washington has an expanded Foreclosure Fairness Program in 2025 that might be able to mediate with your mortgage company while you wait for benefits. You can find information at the Department of Commerce website.

•This is incredibly helpful information. I'll send that secure message right away mentioning the foreclosure risk with specific dates. And I'll definitely look into the Foreclosure Fairness Program - I had no idea that existed. Thank you so much!

have you tried going to the office in person? i waited 4 hours but actually got help and my adjudication was completed within a week after going in person. some issues they can't resolve on the spot but at least you get real answers

•Which office did you go to? I thought they weren't taking in-person appointments anymore, but I'll absolutely drive wherever I need to if I can get this resolved!

•Some progress! I followed the advice about sending a message specifically mentioning foreclosure risk, AND I used Claimyr to actually reach someone. The agent noted my account with an 'urgent housing' flag. Still waiting but they said it should be resolved within 10 business days. I'll update when I hear more.
