The Washington ESD system is honestly a mess when it comes to showing important info like benefit balances. I've been through this with several family members and it's always a struggle to find basic account information.
UPDATE: I finally found it! There's a link called 'View Benefit Information' that wasn't obvious at first. It shows your total benefit amount and how much you have left. Had to dig around for like 30 minutes but it's there.
The main thing to remember is that unemployment pay is temporary income replacement, not permanent support. It's designed to help you while you actively search for new employment. Make sure you're genuinely looking for work and following all the rules.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful information! I feel much more prepared to file my claim now. I'll make sure to keep track of all my tip income and be ready for the job search requirements. Hopefully the process goes smoothly but good to know about resources like Claimyr if I need help reaching Washington ESD.
The most important thing is just to get started. Don't overthink it - the system will walk you through most of the steps. I was so intimidated when I first had to file but it's really not as complicated as it seems once you get going.
One last thing - if you run into problems reaching Washington ESD by phone, that Claimyr service really does work. I used it twice when I had issues and both times got connected to an agent who could actually help me. Worth trying if you get stuck.
Seconding this - used Claimyr when my claim was stuck and finally got answers. The regular phone system is just impossible to get through.
The whole base period thing tripped me up when I first applied. I kept thinking it was about the most recent work, but it's actually about specific calendar quarters that might not include your most recent employment.
I wish they made this information clearer upfront. I wasted so much time trying to figure out if I qualified when I could have just filed and found out quickly through the system.
The ESD website has gotten better over the years but it's still pretty confusing to navigate. Sometimes calling is your best bet if you can actually get through.
That's where services like Claimyr come in handy - when you need to talk to a real person but can't get through the regular phone lines. Saved me so much frustration.

One last thing - if you're confused about anything during the process, don't guess. Either look it up on the Washington ESD website or call them for clarification. Making assumptions can get you into trouble later.

•Good advice. I'd rather ask a stupid question than mess up my benefits.

•Exactly. And if you can't get through on the phone, that Claimyr thing people mentioned might be worth trying. Sometimes you really do need to talk to a human to get clarity.

The whole thing is pretty straightforward once you get into the routine. File initial claim, wait for approval, file weekly claims every week, do job search activities, keep records. Repeat until you find work. Most people adapt to it pretty quickly.
