One more thing - if you ever need to update your direct deposit info, make sure you do it early in the week. Changes made close to your filing day might not take effect until the following week's payment.
Make sure you have email notifications turned on in your Washington ESD account. They'll send you a payment confirmation when it processes.
UPDATE: My payment just hit! Took exactly 3 business days from filing Sunday to getting paid Wednesday morning. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance!
This thread has been super helpful! I'm in a similar situation and was worried about filing. Sounds like it's definitely worth doing and not as complicated as I thought. Going to start my application tomorrow.
If anyone needs help reaching Washington ESD after they file, I'll third the recommendation for Claimyr. Used it myself when I had issues with my partial benefit calculation and it was worth every penny to actually talk to someone who could fix my problem instead of getting hung up on after waiting on hold for an hour.

For anyone still wondering, the final decision authority ultimately rests with the Washington State Employment Security Department as a whole, but individual claims are decided by designated staff members who have been trained and certified to make those determinations within established legal guidelines.

•Thanks for the clear explanation. It helps to understand the structure and know that there are qualified people making these decisions.

Bottom line is there are real people making these decisions, they're trained professionals, and they have to follow state law. The main problem is just the volume of claims and staffing issues that create delays. But the actual decision-making process is legitimate even if the wait times are frustrating.

•That's a helpful summary. I feel better knowing it's a legitimate process even if it's slow. Going to try calling through that service to check my status.
