Just a heads up - if you're considering taking an assignment in another state while your Washington claim is active, you need to report that to Washington ESD. Can't collect benefits while working full-time elsewhere.
Final update - my Washington ESD claim was approved! Took 4 weeks total but I'm finally getting benefits. The key was having all my documentation ready and being clear about the nature of travel nursing work.
Just wanted to add that if you're still employed but your hours got cut significantly, you might qualify for partial unemployment benefits too. It's not just for people who are completely out of work.
One thing to consider is whether the employee's accommodation needs might affect their job search requirements. Washington ESD might need clarification on their ability and availability for work given their disability.
That's a good point I hadn't considered. Their accommodation needs were pretty minimal - just ergonomic equipment and flexible scheduling - so shouldn't impact their general job search ability.
Is there a way to check on the status of someone else's unemployment claim as their former employer? Sometimes Washington ESD contacts us about claims from months ago and we have no context.
Employers can't check claim status directly, but Washington ESD should provide context when they contact you about a claim. You can always ask for clarification about what information they need.
The fact that they left a voicemail is actually good - means it's probably not urgent or they would have kept calling. Still call back ASAP though.
Seriously consider that Claimyr thing someone mentioned. I used it last week and got connected to an agent in like 20 minutes instead of spending all day trying.
UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know I finally got through to Washington ESD. Turns out it was just a routine verification call about my job separation. They needed to confirm a few details but everything was fine. Thanks for all the advice!
I actually ended up using Claimyr after reading about it here. Got connected in about 15 minutes and the whole call with the agent only took 10 minutes. Definitely worth it to avoid the stress of calling all day.

Been getting Washington ESD payments for 4 months now and Wednesday has never failed. Only thing that throws off the schedule is federal holidays that close banks.

One more thing - if your payment is ever late or missing, don't panic immediately. Sometimes there are processing delays that resolve within 24 hours. But if it's been more than 2 days, definitely contact Washington ESD.

•Good advice! I tend to worry about money stuff so it's good to know some delay can be normal.

•And when you do need to contact them, that Claimyr service really does work. Saved me so much frustration when I had a payment issue last month.
