The bottom line is that Washington ESD wants to see that you made reasonable efforts to resolve the situation before quitting. If you can show that, and you have good documentation, you should be okay.
Been collecting unemployment for 8 weeks now while my severance sits in savings. No issues at all with Washington ESD. They asked about it during my initial interview but once I explained it was a lump sum they moved on.
Make sure you understand your non-compete and severance agreement before filing. Some agreements have clauses about collecting unemployment that you need to be aware of.
Just remember that even if your claim gets denied initially, you can appeal. Don't give up after the first rejection because a lot of quit cases get approved on appeal once all the facts come out during the hearing process.
Appeals definitely happen but they can take months. Make sure you have financial backup if you go that route.
That's another situation where Claimyr might help - they can connect you with ESD agents to check on appeal status and get updates on timing.
Bottom line - if you have legitimate good cause like harassment, unsafe conditions, or illegal activity, you have a decent shot at getting benefits. But if it's just because you don't like your job or boss, you probably won't qualify. Make sure your situation truly meets the legal standard.
The waiting week was eliminated in Washington so you can get paid for your first week of unemployment. That's one nice thing compared to some other states that still have waiting periods.
Really appreciate everyone's help here. Sounds like with my salary I should expect somewhere in the $500-600 range per week. That'll help a lot while I'm job hunting. Time to file my claim and see what happens!
If you run into any issues or need to speak with someone at ESD, definitely check out that Claimyr service I mentioned. Makes the whole process much less stressful.

Remember that even if your employer contests your claim, that doesn't mean you'll be denied. Washington ESD will look at all the evidence from both sides. Don't let their threats discourage you from filing - it's your right to apply for benefits.

•Thanks everyone for all the advice! I'm going to file my claim today and document everything about the termination.

•Good luck! You've got this. The system can be slow but it usually works out fairly in the end.

Another vote for that Claimyr service if you need to reach Washington ESD urgently. Used it myself when I had questions about my weekly claim certification and it saved me hours of calling. Worth knowing about as a backup option.

•Definitely bookmarking that for future reference. Sounds like getting through to them can be really challenging.
