If I could give 10 stars I would

If I could give 10 stars I would If I could give 10 stars I would Such an amazing service so needed during the times when EDD almost never picks up Claimyr gets me on the phone with EDD every time without fail faster. A much needed service without Claimyr I would have never received the payment I needed to support me during my postpartum recovery. Thank you so much Claimyr!

Really made a difference

Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.

Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.

Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Consistent,frustration free, quality Service.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

IT WORKS!! Not a scam!

I tried for weeks to get thru to EDD PFL program with no luck. I gave this a try thinking it may be a scam. OMG! It worked and They got thru within an hour and my claim is going to finally get paid!! I upgraded to the $60 call. Best $60 spent!

The best advice I can give is to file as soon as possible since there's usually a waiting week before benefits begin. Don't wait around trying to calculate exact amounts.

Good point, I'll start the application process tomorrow. Thanks everyone for all the helpful information!

You're welcome! The sooner you file, the sooner you'll know your exact benefit amount and can start receiving payments.

0 coins

Also remember to keep looking for work while collecting benefits. Washington ESD requires you to be able and available for work to continue receiving payments.

Definitely planning to keep job searching actively. This is just temporary help while I find something new.

That's the right attitude. Good luck with your job search and navigating the unemployment system!

I thought there was something about training extensions? Like if you're in an approved training program you can get extra weeks?

0 coins

There are some training programs that can extend benefits, but they're limited and you have to be approved before your regular benefits exhaust. Check with WorkSource about approved training programs.

Thanks, I'll look into that. Every extra week helps when you're job searching.

Bottom line - plan for 26 weeks maximum and use every single week productively. Don't assume there will be extensions or additional programs. The safety net has gotten thinner over the years.

You're right. I need to start treating this like a 6-month sprint, not a marathon.

One thing to watch out for - make sure you report any part-time work or odd jobs while you're collecting. Even small amounts of income need to be reported on your weekly claims or you could get hit with an overpayment later.

You can still work part-time and collect benefits, they just reduce your weekly amount based on what you earn. Better to report it and get partial benefits than hide it and get in trouble.

This is super important advice - I know someone who got hit with a huge overpayment notice because they didn't report some cash work they did

Based on what you've described, you definitely qualify. 8 months of steady work is plenty to establish a base period, and getting laid off means you're eligible. File as soon as possible and don't stress about it!

Thank you everyone for all the advice and reassurance! I'm going to file my claim this afternoon. This thread has been incredibly helpful.

If you're ever having trouble with the weekly filing system or need to talk to someone at Washington ESD about it, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier is legit. I used it when I had questions about reporting part-time work and they got me through to an agent in like 15 minutes instead of the usual hours of calling.

Did you have to pay extra for that service?

0 coins

There's a fee but honestly it was worth it to actually talk to someone instead of wasting my whole day trying to get through. Check out their demo video to see how it works.

Bottom line - file between Sunday and Friday, report your previous week's activities honestly, and you'll be fine. It becomes routine after a few weeks.

Thanks everyone! This has been really helpful. I feel much more confident about filing my weekly claims now.

Just wanted to add that if you received unemployment in multiple states during the pandemic, you'll get separate 1099-G forms from each state's employment department. Don't forget to include all of them on your federal return.

0 coins

Thankfully I only dealt with Washington ESD but good reminder for people who moved around during the pandemic.

0 coins

Yeah I got benefits from both Washington and Oregon when I moved. Had to track down forms from both states.

0 coins

Bottom line - yes you have to pay federal income tax on ALL unemployment benefits received after 2020. The temporary exclusion was only for 2020 tax year. Plan ahead for next year if you're still receiving benefits.

0 coins

If you can't pay it all at once, the IRS has payment plan options that aren't too bad. Better than ignoring it.

Good to know, I'll look into that if needed. Really appreciate all the advice from everyone!
