Has anyone had issues with overpayments? I'm worried about making a mistake on my weekly claims and having to pay money back later.
Another thing - your benefit year lasts 52 weeks from when you first filed, but you can only collect up to 26 weeks of benefits during that year. So if you find work and stop collecting, you can't come back later in the same benefit year and collect more unless you have special circumstances.
Well, you have to stop filing if you're working full-time. But you can restart benefits if you become unemployed again within the same benefit year, as long as you haven't used up all 26 weeks.
I read somewhere that Washington ESD actually prefers when unemployment is low because it means fewer claims to process and less strain on the system. Not sure if that's accurate though.
Bottom line: if you qualified for benefits when you filed, low unemployment doesn't change that. The system is designed to provide support during job transitions regardless of the broader job market.
Just want to mention that if you do end up needing to contact Washington ESD about this, Claimyr has been a lifesaver for actually getting through their phone system. I tried calling for literally weeks before finding that service. The demo video shows exactly how it works if you're curious.
UPDATE: I ended up talking to HR today and filing a formal complaint. They seemed to take it seriously and said they'd investigate within the next week. Hoping this leads somewhere positive but at least now I have documentation of trying to resolve it internally first.
Just to add - after you file on esd.wa.gov, you'll get a determination letter in the mail (or electronically) telling you if you're approved and how much you'll get per week. Don't panic if it takes a few days to arrive.

good luck with whatever you decide. just remember that no job is worth your mental health and there are always other opportunities out there. sometimes taking the risk is better than staying miserable

•You're right, I need to remember that. Thanks for the encouragement - it's been really helpful getting all these different perspectives.

Hope this thread has been helpful! The key points to remember: document everything, try to resolve issues through proper channels first, file immediately if you do quit, and don't be afraid to appeal if you get denied. Washington ESD does approve good cause quits, but you need to build a strong case.
