yeah this thread has been super helpful. i wish i had found something like this when i was starting out with unemployment
The weekly claims are pretty straightforward once you get used to them. You just answer questions about any work you did, money you earned, and your job search activities for that week.
One last tip - keep detailed records of everything. Save all your correspondence with Washington ESD, keep track of your job search activities, and document any work you do while collecting benefits. It'll save you headaches if any questions come up later.
One thing to keep in mind is that your first payment might be delayed if they need to verify your employment. Have your pay stubs and W-2s ready in case they ask for documentation.
Made $24/hour and got $612 per week. Pretty fair considering I was supporting a family. The key is filing immediately after your last day of work and staying on top of your weekly claims. Miss one week and you lose that week's benefits permanently.
One thing people don't realize is that your benefit amount stays the same for your entire benefit year, even if you get a part-time job. You just report the earnings and they reduce your weekly payment accordingly.
Has anyone had success getting their benefit amount increased if Washington ESD made a mistake in the calculation? I think they used the wrong wages for my claim.
Yes, you can request a redetermination if you think there's an error. You'll need documentation of your wages to prove the mistake. This is another situation where being able to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD is crucial.
I might need to try that Claimyr service then. I've had no luck getting through on my own.

Just want to echo what everyone else is saying - file immediately. There's literally no benefit to waiting and it just delays everything. I see people make this mistake all the time and regret it later.

•Good luck! Hope your adjudication goes smoothly given the circumstances you described.

For what it's worth, I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier when I was stuck in adjudication hell for my quit situation. Took about 3 weeks but they finally got me connected to someone who could actually explain what documents I needed. Saved me months of waiting around wondering what was happening.

•That's reassuring to know there's a backup option if I can't get through normally.

•Yeah the regular phone system for Washington ESD is basically broken. Having an alternative is huge.
