I feel for everyone going through this. Lost my job as a bank teller when they automated everything and went to online banking. Been on UI for 4 months now and every job I apply for either requires skills I don't have or pays minimum wage. The middle is just gone.
The disappearing middle class jobs is exactly what I'm worried about. Seems like everything is either highly skilled professional work or low-wage service jobs.
Not to be negative but I think we're all going to have to get used to changing careers multiple times. The pace of change is so fast now that no job is really secure long-term. Structural unemployment might become the norm rather than the exception.
I remember being so nervous about filing my first claim. Thought I was going to mess something up and get in trouble. But honestly the online application isn't too bad, just take your time and read everything carefully. You can always call if you have questions, though good luck getting through lol
Ha! Yeah the phone situation is ridiculous. I tried calling Washington ESD like 50 times before giving up and just figuring things out myself. Some people have better luck with that Claimyr thing but I managed without it.
Good luck with your claim! The whole process seems overwhelming at first but once you get approved and get into the routine of filing weekly claims, it becomes pretty automatic. Just stay on top of your job search and keep good records.
One last tip - when you file your appeal, be very specific about why you think the denial was wrong. Don't just say 'I disagree.' Explain exactly what information might be missing or incorrect. The more detail you provide, the better chance your appeal has.
Thank you everyone for all this advice. I feel much more prepared to handle this appeal now. I'll start gathering my documents and file the appeal this week.
I used Claimyr recently too and honestly it was a game changer for getting through to Washington ESD about my ongoing claim issues. Way less frustrating than the regular phone system. Hope your appeal goes smoothly!
Thanks! I'm definitely going to check out Claimyr if I can't get through to them about my appeal status.
One last question - if you meet the work requirements but get denied for other reasons (like misconduct or something), can you still file again later if you get more work?
Thanks everyone for clearing this up! I was really worried about the 90 day thing but now I understand it's more complex than that. Going to file my claim this week.

Hope you get this sorted out quickly! Dealing with Washington ESD payment issues is stressful enough without having to worry about cashing checks too.

•We've all been there with unemployment complications, gotta help each other out

•Exactly, the system is confusing enough without going through it alone

Last resort if Walmart doesn't work - some 7-Eleven stores have check cashing services too, though I'm not sure about their fees or limits for unemployment checks.

•Yeah probably more expensive but sometimes they're more convenient location wise
