Virtual SSA appointment confirmation - when will I get my Teams link for 2/27?

I finally got through to SSA after trying for weeks and scheduled an appointment to complete my retirement benefits application. The representative told me it would be a virtual meeting using Microsoft Teams on February 27th. It's now just a week away, and I still haven't received an email with the link or even a confirmation of what time the appointment will be. Is this normal? How close to the appointment date do they usually send the Teams link? I'm getting anxious since I need to make sure I'm available and that my computer is working properly for the meeting. Has anyone done one of these virtual appointments recently?

I had a Teams meeting with SSA last month. They sent me the link only TWO DAYS before my appointment! I was freaking out too thinking they forgot about me. The email came from some weird government email address too, almost went to my spam folder.

Two days before? That's cutting it close! Did they at least tell you the time when you initially scheduled it? The rep I spoke with just said 'February 27th' but didn't confirm a time. I'm worried I might miss the email entirely.

my mom had one of these and they literally sent the link the MORNING OF her appointment lol. govt efficiency at its finest

Same happened to my brother! SSA is seriously the worst with communication. He ended up missing his appointment because the email went to his junk folder and he had to reschedule and wait another 6 weeks.

As a former SSA employee, I can tell you that their protocol is to send the Teams meeting invitation 48-72 hours before the scheduled appointment. However, with current staffing shortages, this sometimes happens closer to the appointment date. A few things to do: 1. Check your spam/junk folders daily 2. Call the SSA office where your appointment is scheduled (not the main 800 number) to confirm the exact time of your appointment 3. If you don't receive anything 48 hours before, call again to remind them The email will come from a .gov email address and will contain your appointment time, the Teams link, and some instructions on how to join. Make sure you test your microphone and camera before the appointment time.

Thank you for the detailed response! One problem - I don't think I have the direct number for the specific office. The appointment was made through the national 800 number. Is there a way to find the local office contact information? I'll definitely keep checking my spam folder.

I tried calling the SSA main number for THREE DAYS about my virtual appointment last week! Couldn't get through AT ALL!!! When I finally did, they transferred me twice and then I got disconnected! TYPICAL GOVERNMENT INEFFICIENCY! They expect us to be perfectly prepared for these meetings but can't even send a simple email on time. Check your junk mail constantly because that's where mine ended up!

this is why i helped my grandfather set up direct deposit for his SS checks. one less thing to deal with those people about

I've been through this process recently. Here's what you should know: - SSA typically sends the Teams link 2-3 days before your appointment - The email comes from a no-reply.gov address (check spam folders) - The subject line will contain "Social Security Administration - Virtual Appointment" - It will include both the time and date of your appointment If you're concerned, I'd recommend trying to call them back to confirm your appointment time. You don't want to be waiting all day on the 27th with no clear time frame. Also, make sure to test Teams on your device ahead of time. They expect you to be ready to go with camera and microphone working.

Thank you for the subject line info - that helps! I'm definitely going to test Teams beforehand. Do you remember if their virtual meetings ran on time or did they make you wait?

I had this exact issue two months ago! I was so worried they'd forgotten me. I ended up using Claimyr.com to get through to an actual SSA agent to confirm my appointment details. Saved me hours of redial hell. They got me through to SSA in about 15 minutes and I was able to confirm my appointment time and that they had my correct email. The agent manually resent my Teams link while I was on the phone. There's a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/Z-BRbJw3puU - seriously worth it when you're stressing about an important appointment.

I've heard about this service but was skeptical. Did they actually get you through to a real person? The hold times with SSA are insane lately.

Yes, got me through to an actual SSA rep who could see my file and everything. The SSA rep told me they were swamped with these virtual appointments and sometimes the email notifications get delayed in their system. But once I reached someone, they fixed it right away.

Another thing - make sure you have all your documents ready to go! My husband had his appointment and they wanted: - Birth certificate - Social security card - Marriage license (for spousal benefits) - Tax returns from last year - Direct deposit info (account/routing) The meeting went WAY faster because we had everything ready to show on camera. The agent actually complimented us on being prepared lol

That's a good list! I have most of those documents already gathered, but I hadn't thought about having my tax returns handy. I'll make sure to have those too. Did they ask for digital copies or just to see them on camera?

They just had my husband hold them up to the camera! Super low-tech but it worked. The agent took screenshots I think. But having digital copies ready to email probably wouldn't hurt.

btw the teams meetings are weird, my aunt did one and said the ssa person kept their camera OFF the whole time but made her keep hers on

OF COURSE they keep their cameras off! They're probably sitting there in pajamas while we have to look presentable and professional! Double standards all the way with government workers!!!

If you haven't received the Teams link by February 25th (two days before), I would definitely call SSA back. For reference, here's how to find your local office phone number if you want to try calling them directly instead of the main line: 1. Go to ssa.gov/locator 2. Enter your zip code 3. It will show your local office with their phone number Local offices are sometimes easier to reach than the national 800 number, especially early in the morning (right when they open).

Thank you for this! I'll look up my local office right now. I appreciate everyone's help - feeling much less anxious about the process now that I know what to expect.

Just wanted to add that you should also test your internet connection beforehand! My neighbor had her SSA Teams meeting last month and her wifi kept cutting out during the call. The agent was understanding but they had to reschedule because they couldn't complete the application process with the connection issues. She ended up having to wait another month for a new appointment. Maybe do a test call with a friend or family member a day or two before to make sure everything works smoothly on your end.

That's such good advice about testing the internet connection! I hadn't even thought about that potential issue. My home wifi can be spotty sometimes, especially during peak hours. I'll definitely do a test call beforehand and maybe have a backup plan ready in case my connection fails during the actual appointment. Did your neighbor have to go through the whole scheduling process again from scratch, or were they able to reschedule more easily the second time?

I went through this same process about 6 months ago and can relate to your anxiety! A few tips that helped me: First, definitely set up a dedicated folder in your email for SSA correspondence so you don't miss anything. Second, if you use Outlook or Gmail, you can set up a specific filter to catch emails from .gov addresses so they don't get buried. Third, about 24 hours before your appointment, I'd recommend doing a full tech check - not just Teams, but also make sure your computer is fully charged, you have good lighting (they need to see your documents clearly), and that you're in a quiet space. The whole process took about 45 minutes for me once we got started. One last thing - have a pen and paper ready because they'll give you confirmation numbers and next steps that you'll want to write down. Good luck with your retirement application!

This is really comprehensive advice! I especially like the idea about setting up an email filter for .gov addresses - that's something I wouldn't have thought of but could be super helpful. The 45-minute timeframe is good to know too so I can block out enough time and make sure I won't be interrupted. Did you find the SSA representative to be pretty patient if you needed to find a document or had technical issues during the call?

I'm in a similar situation - scheduled my disability review appointment for next week and still haven't gotten my Teams link! Reading through everyone's experiences here is actually reassuring that this seems to be normal (though frustrating) for SSA. I'm definitely going to check my spam folder daily now and use that office locator tool someone mentioned to get my local office number as backup. Has anyone had experience with SSA virtual appointments for disability reviews specifically, or is the process pretty much the same as retirement applications?

0 coins

I haven't done a disability review specifically, but from what I've heard from others in disability support groups, the process is pretty similar to retirement appointments in terms of the tech setup and timing of when they send the Teams link. The main difference might be the types of documents they want to see - for disability reviews they usually want updated medical records, doctor statements, and sometimes work history info if your condition has changed. The SSA rep should be just as patient with tech issues since they're used to dealing with people who might have disabilities that make technology challenging. Good luck with your review! I'd definitely recommend calling your local office if you don't get the link by 48 hours before, just like everyone suggested for retirement appointments.

I just went through this exact same situation last month! I was scheduled for a virtual SSA appointment and didn't receive my Teams link until literally the day before my appointment. I was checking my email obsessively for weeks thinking they had forgotten about me. When it finally came, it was from an address like "noreply.ssa.gov" and had "SSA Virtual Appointment Confirmation" in the subject line. A couple of things that might help while you wait: First, make sure you have the SSA office locator bookmarked (ssa.gov/locator) so you can call your local office directly if needed - they're sometimes easier to reach than the main 800 number. Second, definitely test Microsoft Teams ahead of time, even if it's just joining a test meeting by yourself. The SSA rep will expect your camera and microphone to work right away. The waiting is definitely nerve-wracking, but from what I've experienced and seen others post here, getting the link 1-3 days before seems to be their standard (though frustrating) timeline. Hang in there!
