PA UC showing $0 for final week with lower balance than weekly benefit amount - will I get remaining balance?

So I'm at the very end of my benefit year and just did what should be my final weekly claim. My UC account was showing I had about $174 left in my balance, but my weekly benefit amount is normally $378. When I submitted my claim just now, it's showing $0 where my weekly amount usually displays! Does this mean I'm not getting that last $174? Or will they still pay out whatever remaining balance I have left? Has anyone dealt with this before? I was really counting on getting at least something for this last week. The system didn't give me any errors or warnings during filing.

hey same thing happend to me this past january. youll get the remaining balance don't worry

Oh thank goodness! Did it still show up on your payment date or was there a delay?

Yes, PA UC will pay out your remaining balance for your final week, even if it's less than your weekly benefit amount. That's called a partial benefit week. The $0 showing up is just a display issue in their system. The money should post to your Money Network card on your regular payment date, assuming there aren't any issues with your claim. You can check your payment status under 'Payment History' after it processes to confirm the amount.

Thanks so much for explaining! I'll keep an eye on the payment history page. Really appreciate knowing this is normal.

I had the same problem reaching PA UC by phone but actually found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an agent in about 30 minutes. It basically keeps auto-dialing and holds your place in line so you don't have to keep redialing yourself. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. I was skeptical but it saved me hours of frustration when I had a similar issue with my final payment not showing up correctly. Their website is claimyr.com if anyone needs it.

That's totally unrelated to what OP is asking about. Maybe start your own thread? But to answer you quickly, no, there are no automatic extensions anymore like during COVID. You'll need to file a new initial claim if you're still unemployed when your benefit year ends.

When this happened to me, I ended up not getting the remaining balance at all. The system just cut me off. I filed an appeal but lost because apparently if your final week doesn't meet some minimum threshold they can just keep the money. Hope u have better luck than me.

That's not accurate information. PA unemployment will pay the remaining balance as a partial final week as long as you're otherwise eligible for that week. There is no minimum threshold that would cause them to withhold your final payment. If you didn't receive your final balance, there was likely another eligibility issue with your claim that week, such as excessive earnings or failure to complete work search requirements.

I work for a non-profit that helps people with unemployment issues. This is completely normal. The PA UC system will pay out your remaining balance (the $174) as your final payment. The $0 showing is just how their system displays it initially. If you look at your claim status page once it processes, it should show the partial payment amount. You should receive that money on your regular payment day, which is typically 2-3 business days after filing if you use direct deposit or the Money Network card. If nothing shows up after 5 business days, then I'd recommend contacting UC for assistance.

Thanks so much for the clear explanation! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who deals with this stuff regularly. I'll wait for my normal payment day and check then.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that the partial payment of $174 did post to my Money Network card this morning! Thanks to everyone who helped explain what was happening. The system still shows $0 on my claim summary but the payment history shows the correct amount.
