PA UC payment timeline for first week after waiting week - when will transaction number appear?

My son just got laid off from his construction job due to winter slowdown. The system is showing his benefit amount and we filed his waiting week last week. I'm helping him file his first actual claim this Sunday, but I'm confused about the timing for everything. Once we submit this Sunday, how long until we see a transaction number? And after that, how long until the actual payment date? His rent is due on the 15th and we need to figure out if the UC payment will arrive before then. His benefit amount is showing as $504/week in the system but no money has come through yet because of the waiting week. Thanks for any help!

When you file on Sunday the transaction number should show up by Tuesday or Wednesday. Then the payment usually hits the Money Network card 2-3 business days after that. So if you file this Sunday, he'll probably get paid Thursday or Friday if there are no issues with the claim.

Thank you! That's cutting it close for his rent but at least now we know. Do you know if there's any way to check if there are issues with the claim before filing on Sunday?

Transaction numbers typically appear within 24-48 hours after filing the weekly certification, and payments are usually processed 1-2 business days after that. However, first payments sometimes take longer because the system may flag them for additional review. I'd recommend setting up direct deposit rather than using the Money Network card if you haven't already - it's usually faster. Also make sure he's completing his work search activities (applying to at least 2 jobs and completing 1 work search activity each week).

When my husband got laid off last winter, we filed Sunday and the money didn't hit until the next Monday. Just so you know it MIGHT take longer than what people are saying. PA UC is so frustrating!

If the benefit amount is already showing in the system and the waiting week has been processed without issues, the timeline should be: 1. File on Sunday 2. Transaction number appears Tuesday-Wednesday 3. Payment processes Wednesday-Thursday 4. Money available Thursday-Friday However, IF there are any open issues on the claim (even minor ones), this will delay payment. You can check if there are any issues by logging into his account and looking at the claim status. It should say "Active" with no open issues if everything is good to go.

I spent WEEKS trying to get through to someone at PA UC when my first payment was delayed. The phones are absolutely impossible - I called 67 times in one day and never got through. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Saved me so much frustration, and the agent was able to release my payment that had been held up for no reason. Just something to keep in mind if you run into any issues with his payments.

Does this service actually work? I'm skeptical of anything claiming to get through to UC when their phone lines are constantly jammed.

Yes, it actually did work for me. I was super skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days. Got through to an actual person who fixed my issue in like 10 minutes once I got connected.

DONT FORGET that if he has federal taxes withheld that will reduce his weekly amount!!! My benefit amount said $458 but I only got $412 after taxes were taken out. Just so ur not surprised when the amount is different than expected.

That's a good point! I forgot about the tax withholding. I'll make sure he's aware of that so he's not counting on the full amount.

Yes, it's his first time. Thanks for the reminder - we're making sure he applies to at least 2 jobs each week and does the additional work search activity. The construction slowdown should only be for a few months but we need to make sure everything is done correctly.

One more thing to be aware of - since this is a seasonal layoff from construction, make sure his employer actually reported the layoff to UC. Sometimes employers will say they've filed the paperwork but haven't actually done it, which can delay benefits. If his dashboard shows his employer information correctly and his monetary determination is final (not pending), then you should be good to go.

I just checked and yes, his employer info is showing correctly and the monetary determination says Final. So that part seems to be in order. Thank you for mentioning it though!

To directly answer your original question: The transaction number should appear within 2-3 business days after filing (so by Wednesday), and the pay date usually follows 1-2 business days after that. So if you file on Sunday and there are no issues with the claim, the payment should be available by Friday at the latest, though sometimes it can be as early as Thursday.

Perfect - thank you for the clear timeline! I'll help him file first thing Sunday morning.
