PA UC check delivery timeframe & continued benefits during employer appeal - urgent help needed!

So stressed right now about 2 things with my PA unemployment! First - Treasury says they mailed my check on Tuesday (3/7/25). Anyone know how long until it actually shows up in my mailbox??? Been checking daily and nothing yet 😫 Second question - I just won my case with the examiner after having 3 open issues on my claim (all cleared now thank goodness). But now my employer filed an appeal! The letter I got says 'won't affect benefits being received' - does this mean I'll keep getting paid while waiting for the hearing? Anyone been through this? Really can't afford to lose payments right now!

For your first question, PA UC checks typically take 5-7 business days to arrive once Treasury mails them. So if it went out Tuesday 3/7, you should receive it between Tuesday 3/14 and Thursday 3/16. The mail has been pretty slow lately though. On your second question, yes - that statement means your benefits will continue while the appeal is pending. The employer appeal doesn't stop your payments as long as the examiner already ruled in your favor. Just make sure you keep doing your weekly certifications and work search activities during this time!

Thx for the fast response!! Today's 3/15 so hopefully check comes tomorrow then. Getting so worried cuz bills are due soon. For the appeal thing - do u know how long it usually takes till they schedule a hearing? I'm nervous about what to expect...

i got an appeal from my employer too last month, took like 4 weeks to get a hearing date. make sure u save ALL ur paperwork from everything, they'll want copies of stuff. and ya the checks r super slow, mine took like 10 days once

10 DAYS?!?! That is completely ridiculous! The PA Treasury Department needs to get their act together. They expect us to file everything on time but can't even get a check to us within a reasonable timeframe. The whole system is designed to make things as difficult as possible for people who are already struggling. OP should definitely look into direct deposit - it's MUCH faster than waiting for these snail mail checks!!

When my old boss filed an appeal last year it didnt stop my checks but the hearing was super stressful!!!! Make sure u have someone with u for support. The hearing ppl were nice but my boss had a lawyer and I didnt know what I was doing. Still won tho!! Good luck!!!!

Oh wow did u have to get a lawyer too?? I definitely can't afford that right now. What kind of questions did they ask in the hearing?

To answer your question about the hearing timeline - it varies, but typically 4-6 weeks to get scheduled. The notice will come by mail with all the details. If you haven't already, set up your direct deposit for future payments to avoid check delays. For the hearing, they'll focus on the same eligibility issues the examiner already ruled on, but you'll need to present your side again. Also, no, you don't absolutely need a lawyer. Many claimants represent themselves successfully, especially if you've already won at the examiner level. Just bring all documentation related to your separation and be prepared to explain your side clearly.

Thanks for explaining. I've been trying to set up direct deposit but keep getting errors on the website. I'll try again tonight. Wish this system wasn't so complicated!

Have you tried calling the PA UC customer service line about either issue? If you can actually get through to a representative, they can look up the exact status of your check and might be able to give you more specific info about the appeal process in your case. I spent 3 days trying to get through and finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to reach a live agent quickly. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The agent was able to tell me exactly when my payment processed and explained everything about my appeal situation.

@OP another thing I just thought of - check what kind of appeal your employer filed. If it's a 'timeliness' appeal (meaning they're arguing they didn't get to respond within their time window), those are different from appeals challenging the actual eligibility determination. The letter should specify what type of appeal it is.

Just checked and it says 'Appeal of Determination (Section 501)' - doesn't mention timeliness. I think they're challenging the whole thing because they claimed I quit but I was actually laid off. That's what the 3 open issues were about before.

I FINALLY got it set up last night! Had to try a different browser (Chrome worked, Firefox kept giving me errors). Hopefully next payment goes straight to my account!

If your employer is challenging a layoff vs. quit determination and you already won at the examiner level, you're in a strong position. The burden of proof shifts to them during the appeal. Make sure you have written documentation of the layoff if possible (emails, texts, termination letter, etc). Also, in my experience, many employers file appeals automatically but then don't show up for the hearing - if that happens, you basically win by default. And yes, your benefits WILL continue during this process, that's the law in PA.

Thank you! I saved all the texts where my supervisor told me about the layoff, plus I have the official letter they gave us when they closed our department. Feeling a bit more confident now.
