PA UC calling nightmare - free redial app recommendations?

Been trying to reach PA unemployment for THREE WEEKS about an open issue on my claim and it's driving me insane! Constant busy signals, disconnections after waiting 40+ minutes, and straight to voicemail. I've tried calling right at 8am, midday, end of day... nothing works. My rent is due next week and I'm seriously stressing out. Does anyone know of a FREE app that will auto-redial the PA UC number for me? I heard some people use redial apps but don't want to pay $$ when I'm already broke. Also any other tips or tricks to actually get through to a real person? Has anyone had luck with email or the chat feature instead? Thanks in advance!

I was in the same boat last month! Try calling exactly at 7:59am and keep hitting redial manually every 30 seconds. I got through on my 17th try (yes I counted lol). The chat feature is useless for anything beyond basic questions, they just tell you to call for any account-specific issues.

Thanks! I've tried the early morning approach but not quite that early. Will set my alarm for 7:45am tomorrow. Did they actually resolve your issue when you got through?

omg PA UC is the WORST!!! i been trying to get thru for 2 months, its ridiculous we pay taxes for this garbage service!!! they should hire more ppl or fix there system, how r we supposed to pay bills???

I know it's frustrating, but they're actually understaffed by about 35% right now. The system wasn't designed to handle this many claims. Not defending it, just explaining why it's happening. Doesn't make it any less stressful!

There's no good free redial app honestly. I tried a couple and they either didn't work well or were very limited in the free version. What worked for me was Claimyr.com - it's not free but it got me through to PA UC in under 30 mins after I spent 2 weeks trying on my own. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Their system basically keeps calling for you until they get through, then they call you and connect you to the UC agent. Totally worth it when my benefits were on hold and I needed rent money.

I've heard of Claimyr but was hoping to avoid spending money since I'm already stressed about finances. But at this point I might have to bite the bullet. How long did it take from when you signed up until you were talking to someone?

I got connected in about 25 minutes. The time savings alone was worth it to me after wasting so many hours redialing myself. Plus I was able to get my open issue fixed and my payments started coming through again.

Try calling the employer line instead of the claimant line. Sometimes they'll help you even though technically it's for employers. Worked for me last year when I had a similar issue.

Please don't do this. The employer line is specifically for employer tax questions and business accounts. If claimants start calling that line, they'll just implement the same phone tree restrictions. It creates more problems for everyone in the long run.

If your issue is an "open issue" on your claim, you might be able to resolve it through your dashboard without calling. Common open issues include: 1. Missing work search activities - add these through your dashboard 2. Identity verification - complete IDme verification if you haven't already 3. Employer protest - this does require talking to someone unfortunately Check your dashboard for any alerts or action items. Sometimes the system doesn't notify you about these requirements.

I checked and there's nothing showing in my dashboard that needs action. Just says "open issue" with no details. I did complete the IDme verification already and have been doing all my work searches. That's why I need to talk to someone directly.

My sister had the same problem last month and she sent an email to UCHelp@pa.gov with her claim number and issue. They actually responded after about 4 days and fixed her problem without having to call! Worth a try while you're still trying to get through on the phone.

Thanks! I'll definitely try this today. Did she put anything specific in the subject line to get their attention?

She put her claim number and "Urgent - Open Issue" in the subject line. Make sure you include your full name, last 4 of SSN, and phone number in the email too.

This is super helpful insider info! I've been mostly trying Mondays thinking I'd catch them at the start of the week. Will definitely try Wednesday afternoon.

Since you mentioned having an open issue specifically, you should know that some open issues will resolve automatically after a certain time period if there's no employer protest. Usually 21 days. When did your issue first appear? If it's been less than 3 weeks, it might resolve itself soon without you needing to call. Also, double-check that you're calling the right number. The main claims line is 888-313-7284, but if you have a specific issue type there might be a more direct number.

It's been about 17 days now, so maybe I'm getting close to that automatic resolution window? I didn't know that was a thing. I've been calling the main number you mentioned. My previous employer and I parted on good terms so I don't think there would be any protest.

If you're at 17 days and had a clean separation, there's a good chance it will resolve in the next week. Keep filing your weekly claims on time, and check your dashboard daily for updates. If you hit 25 days with no change, then I'd definitely try more aggressive contact methods.

@Sadie Benitez This is really helpful advice! I had no idea about the 21-day automatic resolution thing. Since I m'already at day 17 and had a clean separation, maybe I should focus on the email route that @Dominique Adams mentioned while waiting to see if it resolves automatically. At least that way I m being'proactive without spending money on calling services. Thanks for the insight about checking daily - I ve been'checking maybe every few days.

Have you tried contacting your state representative's office? I was stuck in a similar situation for almost a month and finally called my rep's constituent services office. They have a direct line to UC and can escalate cases. I got a call back from UC within 48 hours after my rep's office contacted them. It's free and they're actually really helpful with state agency issues like this. Just google "[your county] state representative" and call their local office - explain you've been trying to reach UC for weeks about rent money and they should be able to help.
