New York Unemployment hearing after quitting job - no lawyer or witnesses
I quit my job to go back to school since I wasn't getting any advancement opportunities even though I have a degree and met all my performance goals. I have a phone hearing coming up but no attorney or witnesses. Not sure if I should even bother with the hearing.

Hate to break it to you but quitting to go back to school isnt usually considered good cause. Your gonna have a really tough time winning this one without documentation showing you tried to advance internally first 😬

•fr fr you need to show you had no choice but to quit. going back to school is a personal choice 🤷♀️

Hey I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at unemployment using claimyr.com. They dial and wait on hold, then connect you when someone picks up. Costs $20 but totally worth it. Check out this video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•How long did you have to wait for the callback?

You should still do the hearing. Always better to try than give up. Just explain your situation honestly and have any emails or performance reviews ready that show you tried to move up in the company.

I was in this exact situation last year. The judge basically told me that voluntarily quitting for school isn't good cause. You need to prove that staying at your job would have caused you direct harm or that they violated your work agreement somehow. Just being stuck in a dead-end job usually isn't enough 😕

Seriously consider showing up with any documentation you have about trying to advance - emails to HR, your supervisor, performance reviews, job postings you applied to internally. The more paper trail you have the better your chances. But ngl its gonna be an uphill battle 🏔️
