NY Unemployment certification asking me to report hours for current week (09/30/2024) that isn't finished yet - how do I certify correctly?
My unemployment claim is asking me to certify for THIS week which isn't even over yet (it's only Wednesday). I'm looking at my New York Unemployment Insurance application right now, and it's asking "This week, beginning Monday 09/30/2024, how many hours did you work, including self-employment?" and wants me to "Round up to the nearest whole number of hours." How can I possibly report hours when the week isn't finished? It's literally asking about a week that's still in progress. The system even notes to "Count only 10 hours for any day you worked more than 10 hours" and has some chart to convert hours into "days" to report. The application is also asking "This week, beginning Monday 09/30/2024, were your gross earnings more than $504?" with Yes/No options. But again, how would I know this when the week isn't complete? I'm also confused because I thought I already filed a few weeks ago but have been working on and off. Haven't certified before. Isn't certification supposed to be for the previous week not the current one? The form is also asking for the last date that I worked (with month and day fields), and whether I worked in New York State in the last 18 months (Yes/No), plus whether I currently live in New York State. If you select "no" to living in NY, it starts asking about commuting. I'm just confused about how to handle the certification when they're asking about an incomplete week. What's the proper way to handle this?

You're certifying for the previous week (Sunday-Saturday). The dates showing on your screen are wrong - probably a glitch in the system. Just put in your hours/earnings from last week when you certify.

Had same problem getting through the system. Finally found a solution using claimyr.com - they dial and wait on hold, then connect you to an agent. Costs $20 but saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Remember you certify on Sunday-Monday for the PREVIOUS week (Sunday-Saturday). The system shows future dates sometimes but ignore that. If you worked sporadically, make sure to report exact hours for each week separately.

Just went through this exact same thing last month! The system definitely shows weird dates sometimes but you're right to be confused. Here's what worked for me: 1. Ignore whatever date it's showing - you're always certifying for the PREVIOUS complete week (Sunday to Saturday) 2. If it's asking about "this week" that's still happening, that's definitely a system glitch 3. Report your hours/earnings from the most recent COMPLETED week only 4. Don't wait - the system won't fix itself and you might miss your certification window The NY unemployment system is notoriously buggy with dates. I've seen it show next week, last month, even random dates from 2023 lol. Just stick to the rule: previous complete week only. If you're still getting errors or weird behavior, screenshot everything and try certifying during off-peak hours (like 6am or after 10pm). The system seems to work better when fewer people are on it. Hope this helps! The whole process is frustrating but once you get the hang of it, it gets easier.
