NYS Department of Labor appeal resolved - what does this status actually mean?
My unemployment appeal has been showing 'appeal resolved' in my account for the past week but I have no idea what this actually means. I filed an appeal back in November after getting disqualified and had my hearing in December. The hearing officer said they'd make a decision within 2-3 weeks but now it just says 'appeal resolved' with no other details. Does this mean I won or lost? Should I expect back pay or do I need to file a new claim? Really confused here and can't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor.

Appeal resolved means the Administrative Law Judge has made a final decision on your case. You should receive a written determination in the mail within 5-7 business days that will explain whether your disqualification was overturned or upheld. If you won, the determination will include information about back pay and when benefits will resume. If you lost, it will explain the reasons and your options for further appeal to the Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board.

•Thank you! So there's no way to know the outcome until I get the letter? The waiting is killing me since I haven't had income for months.

•That gives me hope! Did you have to do anything special to get the back pay or did it just appear automatically?

If you're having trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor for claim status updates, I had success using a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. I was able to get clarification on my appeal status when the online system wasn't clear. Sometimes talking to a real person makes all the difference when you're dealing with confusing status updates.

•How much does that cost though? Seems like we shouldn't have to pay extra just to talk to someone about our own benefits.

•I understand the frustration, but for me it was worth it to get answers instead of waiting weeks in uncertainty. The peace of mind was valuable when I was stressed about my financial situation.

THE NYS DEPARTMENT OF LABOR SYSTEM IS SO RIDICULOUS! Why can't they just tell you the decision right away instead of making you wait for snail mail?? In 2025 this is just unacceptable. Appeal resolved could mean ANYTHING and they know people are stressed waiting for answers about their livelihood.

•I totally agree it's frustrating but I think there are legal requirements about how appeal decisions have to be communicated. Still doesn't make the waiting any easier though.

Check your my.ny.gov messages too sometimes they post the determination there before the letter arrives. Also make sure your address is current because if the letter gets returned your case could get delayed even more.

•Good point about the address! I moved last month but I think I updated it. Better double check that now.

Just wanted to add that if the appeal was decided in your favor, you might also need to resume filing weekly claims right away to continue getting benefits going forward. The back pay is separate from your ongoing weekly claims.
