NY unemployment payment on hold - any advice while waiting for management callback?

I've been trying to get my NY unemployment payments released for almost 3 weeks now. Every time I call, I get put on an endless hold waiting to speak with 'management' about my held payments. My last three certifications show as processed but no money has hit my account. I'm now on hold AGAIN (1hr 42min and counting) hoping to actually reach someone with authority to fix this. Has anyone successfully gotten through to management? Any specific issues I should mention when I finally get someone on the line? My rent is due next week and I'm seriously stressing.

When you finally get through, make sure to specifically ask them about the "payment release code" for your claim. I was in the same situation last month and apparently my account had a fraud verification flag that needed to be manually removed by a supervisor. The regular agents couldn't see this flag, which is why they kept transferring me to management. Also, write down the name and ID number of anyone you speak with!

Thank you! I never heard about a "payment release code" before. Will definitely ask about that and any potential fraud flags. Did they give you any explanation for why your account was flagged in the first place?

u might wanna ask if ur BYE date passed. that happened to me and they didnt tell me I needed to reapply. spent like 3 weeks waitin for $$ that wasnt comin until someone on here told me to check my BYE date

I didn't even think about that! My benefit year might have ended without me realizing it. I'll definitely check that too. Thanks for the tip.

Here's what you need to know when you finally reach management: 1. First, ask if there's an "outstanding issue code" on your account - this is different from a payment release code and tells you WHY the payment is held 2. Request a "claim summary" - they can see all hold codes and pending items at once 3. If they say they're "still reviewing" ask for a specific timeframe 4. If multiple weeks are held, ask if they can release at least the oldest week while reviewing others 5. Request an escalation to a "level 2 review" if they can't resolve immediately The system now automatically holds payments for various verification checks, and only supervisors can override these holds. Don't get off the phone without a clear action plan or timeframe.

This is EXTREMELY helpful, thank you so much! I've been writing down all these questions. The level 2 review is something I'd never have known to ask for. I appreciate you taking the time to list everything out like this.

I swear they put us on hold FOREVER hoping we'll just give up!! Been there so many times. Last month I was on hold for THREE HOURS and then they hung up on me! THE SYSTEM IS RIGGED AGAINST US!!

I felt the same way until I discovered Claimyr. It's a service that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of waiting on hold. Their video explains it better than I can: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. The site is claimyr.com - it was worth it to me after I'd wasted two full days trying to get through on my own for a similar payment hold situation.

Ask them about any ID verification issues. My payments were held for almost a month because apparently they needed additional proof of identity, but nobody bothered to tell me! Check your message inbox on the portal too, sometimes they send notices there that don't come through email.

Just checked my message inbox and there's nothing there. But the ID verification issue is a good point - I'll definitely ask about that. It's so frustrating that they can hold payments without clearly telling us why.

When I went through this, it turned out I had answered one of the weekly certification questions wrong (I said I was unavailable for work one day when I had a doctor's appointment, which I shouldn't have). Could be something simple like that! The problem is that only the higher-level staff can see and fix these issues. Be super patient and friendly with whoever you talk to - I've noticed they're more helpful when you don't sound angry, even though it's SO frustrating!

That's good advice about staying calm. It's hard not to be frustrated after so many calls, but you're right that being pleasant probably gets better results. I'll double-check my certification answers too - maybe I made a mistake somewhere without realizing it.

any luck yet?? curious what the problem was

Still waiting!! Been on hold for over 2.5 hours now. Will update when/if I actually get through to someone. This is ridiculous.

One more tip while you're waiting - if you do get disconnected after this long hold, immediately call back and tell the first representative that you were disconnected while waiting for management. Sometimes they can put you in a priority queue if you've already been waiting a long time. Also, be aware that management stops taking calls at 4:00 PM, even though the regular phone lines stay open until 5:00 PM.

Oh no, I had no idea management stops at 4! It's already 3:15. Now I'm even more stressed they'll cut off the queue before I get through. Thanks for the tip about the priority queue though - that's really helpful to know.

UPDATE: Finally got through! The issue was that I had a "wage verification hold" on my account. Apparently my employer reported different quarterly wages than what I had stated on my application (difference of like $240 total). The supervisor was able to verify my income using my tax documents and release ALL my held payments! They're scheduled to deposit tomorrow. Such a relief. Thank you all for your help and suggestions - especially about asking for the specific hold code and requesting a claim summary. That immediately helped the supervisor identify the issue.

That's great news! So glad you got it resolved. The wage verification holds are really common right now - their new system is automatically flagging even tiny discrepancies. Thanks for updating us!

glad you got it fixed!! sucks you had to waste half your day on hold tho. the whole system needs to be completely rebuilt IMO!!!

Wow, congratulations on finally getting it resolved! A wage verification hold over just $240 seems excessive, but I'm so relieved you got your payments released. This thread is going to be super helpful for others dealing with similar issues. The tips about asking for specific hold codes really made the difference!

Congratulations on getting it resolved! This is such a helpful thread - I'm bookmarking it for future reference. It's crazy how a $240 discrepancy can hold up weeks of payments, but at least now we know to ask about wage verification holds specifically. Your persistence really paid off, and thanks for taking the time to update us with the solution!
