The weekly benefit amount from NYS Department of Labor depends on your earnings history during your base period. Generally, you'll receive about 50% of your average weekly wage, up to the state maximum. For 2025, the maximum weekly benefit is $504. To get your exact amount, you need to file a claim and they'll calculate it based on your quarterly wages from the past 18 months.

Just went through this myself. The NYS Department of Labor looks at your highest quarter of earnings in your base period and divides by 26 to get your weekly rate. But there's also a minimum you have to have earned in your base period to qualify at all. I think it's like $2,600 total but don't quote me on that exact number.

•You're close - the minimum is actually $2,900 in total base period wages, with at least $1,900 in your high quarter. These amounts get adjusted periodically so it's good to check the current requirements on the my.ny.gov portal when you file.

I've been trying to reach someone at NYS Department of Labor for weeks about my benefit calculation because something seems off with my amount. The phone lines are always busy and I keep getting disconnected. Has anyone found a way to actually talk to a real person there?

•I had the same problem until I found this service called Claimyr at claimyr.com. They basically call the NYS Department of Labor for you and get you connected to an actual agent. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of trying to get through myself.

dont forget u also have to do the job search thing every week to keep getting benefits. its like 3 job contacts per week i think? they changed the requirements recently

•Yes, the work search requirement is back to 3 contacts per week for most claimants. You need to keep a log of your job search activities and be prepared to provide details if requested during an audit.

The whole system is so confusing! I got approved but my first payment was less than what they said my weekly rate would be. Turns out they deducted taxes and I didn't realize that was optional. Make sure you understand all the deductions before you get your first check.
