How long does a redetermination for unemployment take - NYS Department of Labor timeline?
Filed for unemployment back in October and everything was going fine until last month when I got a notice saying my claim is under redetermination review. The letter didn't give any specific timeline, just said they're reviewing my eligibility. It's been almost 3 weeks now and my weekly claims are still pending. Does anyone know how long redeterminations typically take with NYS Department of Labor? I'm starting to stress about my bills piling up.

Redeterminations can vary quite a bit depending on the complexity of your case. From what I've seen, they typically take anywhere from 3-8 weeks. The NYS Department of Labor has to review all the documentation and sometimes contact employers, which slows things down. Make sure you respond to any requests for information immediately - that's usually what causes the longest delays.

•Thanks for the info. They haven't asked me for anything additional yet, so hopefully that's a good sign. Just nerve-wracking waiting with no income coming in.

mine took FOREVER last year - like 6 weeks! turns out they were waiting on my old employer to respond to some questionnaire they sent them. maybe call and see if there's something holding it up?

•I've tried calling the NYS Department of Labor number but can never get through. Always says high call volume and hangs up on me.

•I had the same problem with getting through to NYS Department of Labor. Actually found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get connected to agents. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI. Worked for me when I needed to check on my adjudication status.

The redetermination process is basically them re-examining your initial eligibility decision. Common reasons include wage discrepancies, questions about your separation from employment, or issues with your job search activities. While you wait, make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even though they're pending - you don't want to miss any weeks if the redetermination comes back in your favor.

•Wait, I thought if you're under redetermination you don't have to file weekly claims? I stopped filing mine when I got the notice...

•No, you should definitely keep filing! The redetermination review doesn't suspend your obligation to file weekly claims. If you stop filing, you could lose those weeks even if the redetermination is approved.

Been there! My redetermination took about 5 weeks but that was during a busy period. The waiting is the worst part honestly. Just try to stay patient and keep documenting everything in case they need more info later.

I'm going through something similar right now - got my redetermination notice about 2 weeks ago and it's definitely stressful not knowing when it'll be resolved. From what I've researched, the NYS DOL website mentions they aim to complete most redeterminations within 6-8 weeks, but like others have said, it really depends on your specific situation. One thing that helped ease my anxiety was setting up the online account if you haven't already - at least you can see the status updates there even if they're minimal. Hang in there, and definitely keep filing those weekly claims like Omar mentioned!
