How long after NY unemployment assigns my claim to a worker will I finally get paid?
Talked to someone at NY unemployment yesterday after tryng for weeks. They finally told me my claim has been assigned to a worker for review. They wouldn't tell me how long it would actually take to complete the process, just that 'someone is looking into it.' I've already been waiting since April (almost 2 months now) when I first filed after getting let go during our company downsizing. My bills are piling up and I'm getting desperate. Has anyone else had their claim assigned to a worker? How long did it take after that to actually see any money? This whole system seems broken.

Been there! My claim was assigned to a worker back in February. Took about 3 weeks to finally get processed, but I think I got lucky. Heard some people waiting 6-8 weeks after being assigned. The whole system is a mess right now. Good luck, hang in there!

After spendin literally DAYS trying to get thru to ny unemployment, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that called for me and connected me with an agent. Got my claim processed in a week after that. It was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my benefits paid. They have this YouTube video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've tried everything to get through

•Worked for me! They just stay on hold so you don't have to and then call you when they get a real person. Saved me literal hours of my life

•I've spent like 70+ hours on hold with unemployment... this sounds too good to be true

•I thought the same thing but I was desperate. My claim was stuck for 2 months. After I talked to someone using their service my backpay came through in a week!

•Hey I get the skepticism. But when you've been broke for months, you'll try anything. All they do is wait on hold for you - which saved me from going insane hearing that hold music 🤮

The whole 'assigned to a worker' thing is such BS. They told me that in November and I didn't get my money till February. They just say that to get you off the phone.

I've been through this exact situation with NY unemployment. Here's what you need to know: When they assign your claim to a worker, it usually means there's some issue they need to resolve manually. This could be identity verification, wage discrepancy, or something else. Unfortunately, there's no standard timeline - I've seen cases resolved in days and others that took months. The most effective strategy is persistent follow-up. Call repeatedly (yes, it's awful getting through), email your state representative who can sometimes expedite, and document EVERYTHING - dates, names of reps you speak with, what they tell you. I finally broke through using Claimyr.com - it's a service that waits on hold with the unemployment office for you and connects you when a real person answers. Saved me countless hours of hold music torture and actually got my issue resolved. Lastly, if you're truly in financial hardship while waiting, contact local assistance programs. Many counties have emergency rental assistance and food programs specifically for people caught in unemployment delays. Hang in there - the system is broken but persistence eventually pays off.

•Thanks for all this info! Did you have to provide any additional documentation when they assigned it to a worker?

•In my case, they needed additional proof of identity and employment history. Make sure all your documents are ready to go so there's no further delay when they ask!

It took them 52 days after 'assigning to a worker' to actually process my claim. The whole system is a joke.

•52 days?! That's actually criminal. How tf are people supposed to survive???

•Exactly! They don't care at all. I had to move back with my parents at 35 because of their incompetence.

anybody know how to reach a supervisor? regular agents keep giving me the runaround with this 'assigned to a worker' nonsense

•You basically have to get lucky with an agent willing to transfer you. I've heard some people calling at exactly 8:01am have better luck getting senior staff.

•Try claimyr.com - that's how I got through to someone who actually had authority to fix my claim issues.

Pro tip from someone who works in govt (not unemployment): Call your state assembly member or state senator's office. They have special contacts within agencies and can often get things expedited.

•Yes! This is literally what their constituent services staff are FOR. They handle these requests all day long, especially unemployment issues.

•Seriously. It's like they intentionally make it difficult to weed people out from getting what they're literally entitled to.

My timeline: Filed in March. 'Assigned to worker' in April. Got first payment June 8th. Got backpay June 15th. Was about to be evicted when it finally came through. hang tight.

Unpopular opinion but i think the 'assigned to a worker' is actually true and not BS. but the problem is each worker has like 500+ cases they're handling so yours is just sitting in a massive digital pile.

•My cousin works for the DOL (different state) and says they're completely overwhelmed. Each case worker has hundreds of claims to process.

Mine took 7 weeks after being 'assigned' but the backpay made it worth the wait. Stay strong! 💪

•besides calling constantly? Not really. Oh I did send one physical letter by certified mail documenting everything. Not sure if that helped or was coincidence.

The most effecitve thing to do is contact your states representatives offices. I was in the same boat an mine moved very quickly once I did this..

•Got a super honest agent on my 12th attempt calling who looked into it and told me. Said she wasn't supposed to tell me but felt bad seeing how long I'd been waiting.

•That is WILD. They should automatically reassign cases. I've heard similar stories about claims assigned to workers who quit or retired 😅

Call everyday at 8:00am SHARP. Bug them until they do something. Squeaky wheel gets the grease with these people.

I'm in a similar situation - filed in March, got the "assigned to a worker" line in early May, and still nothing. It's honestly depressing how broken this system is. I've been calling daily but can barely get through, and when I do they just repeat the same script about being patient. Meanwhile rent is due and I'm eating ramen every day. Has anyone tried filing a complaint with the state labor department itself? I'm wondering if there's any oversight body that can actually hold them accountable for these ridiculous delays.

•I feel your pain so much! The ramen diet is real 😭 I haven't tried filing a complaint with the labor department yet, but that's actually a really good idea. Also, I've seen people mention contacting your state representatives - apparently their offices have direct lines to DOL and can sometimes get claims expedited. Worth a shot when you're this desperate! Have you tried that Claimyr service people keep mentioning? I'm getting to the point where I'd pay anything to just talk to a real person who can actually help.

•@Gael Robinson I m'in almost the exact same boat - filed around the same time, got assigned to a worker in May, and still waiting. The financial stress is unreal. I actually did file a complaint with the NYS Department of Labor s'Inspector General office last week you (can do it online .)Haven t'heard back yet but at least it s'documented. Also seconding what @Chloe Taylor said about state reps - I m planning'to contact my assembly member s office'tomorrow. At this point I m willing'to try anything. We shouldn t have'to jump through all these hoops just to get benefits we re entitled'to!
