Filed UI claim online, now NYDOL says I need to speak with agent to complete. Not worked since June 2022 - will this affect my claim?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I filed my unemployment claim online, but now the website is telling me I need to speak with an agent to complete the claim and get my benefits. Has anyone else run into this? I'm not sure what else they could need from me since I already gave all the info I had. Also, I haven't been working since last June - do you think that might affect my eligibility?

Ugh, classic bureaucracy BS. They always make you jump through hoops. It's probably just some stupid verification thing. I had to call in too when I filed last year. Took forever to get through, but once I did, it was pretty quick to sort out. Hang in there!

Yeah, but sometimes talking to a human can actually help. I got my issue resolved faster by calling.

Hey there! So, about your situation: ā€¢ Needing to speak with an agent is pretty common, especially if there's anything unusual about your claim. ā€¢ The gap in employment since last June might be why they want to talk to you. They'll probably ask about: - Why you stopped working - What you've been doing since then - If you've been looking for work ā€¢ Don't worry too much - this doesn't necessarily mean you're ineligible. They just need more info. ā€¢ Be prepared to explain your situation clearly and have any relevant dates or documents handy. ā€¢ If you've been doing any freelance or gig work, mention that too. Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes after you talk to them.

Wow, thanks for the detailed response! This really helps me know what to expect. I'll definitely prepare those details before I call.

This is great advice! I wish I had this info when I filed my claim last month. Would've saved me a lot of stress šŸ˜…

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? No way, that's a rip-off. I'd rather wait on hold for free.

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

How does it actually work? Do they give you a specific time to be ready for the call?

Yeah, you schedule a callback window. When they get an agent, they call you. Super simple.

not working since june 2022? hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that might complicate things. they usually want to see more recent work history. but dont give up! explain your situation to the agent, maybe you have a good reason

I'm in the same boat! Filed online and got the same message. Been trying to call for days with no luck. This system is a joke šŸ¤”

Have you tried calling right when they open? I got through after only 30 mins of hold time that way.

Tried that, no dice. Gonna keep at it tho. We shouldn't have to fight this hard for help we're entitled to šŸ˜¤

Pro tip: if u get thru to an agent, ask them for a direct callback number or extension. Saved my butt when I had follow-up questions!

It's probably to prevent fraud. But yeah, it sucks for honest folks just trying to get by.
