Can't reach NY unemployment - constant busy signals and hang ups!
I can't even get through to the NY unemployment 888 number. Just getting busy signals before it hangs up on me... very frustrating 😡. I've been trying for 3 days straight - morning, afternoon, evenings. How am I supposed to talk to someone about my claim?? I need to update my payment info and the website doesn't give me the option. This isn't right!!! Anyone else dealing with this or know a trick to actually get through?

Same thing happened to me last month. The phone lines are COMPLETELY overwhelmed since they started that new claims verification process in February. I tried for almost 2 weeks straight with no luck - just constant busy signals and random disconnects. I finally got through by using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they basically dial in for you and call when they get an agent. Saved me hours of frustration. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Thanks for the tip. I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Did you have to wait long after using it?

Try calling exactly at 8:00am when they open. That's your best chance. I got through last week but I had to redial 27 times first lol

•I tried at 8am sharp yesterday AND today. Still just busy signals. It's like they don't even pick up the phones anymore.

The NYSDOL phone system is severely backlogged right now. They're processing the quarterly wage verification forms that were due in April, so call volume is exceptionally high. Here are a few strategies that might help: 1. Try calling on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday - typically lower volume days 2. Call between 10:30-11:30am or 2:30-3:30pm when lunch rushes are over 3. Make sure you're calling the right number for your specific issue: 888-209-8124 for general claims, but 888-783-1370 for payment issues 4. Use the callback feature on the website (though it's currently backed up as well) If you need to update payment information specifically, have you tried the direct deposit update section in your online account? Go to "Payment Method" under your profile settings.

•Thanks for the detailed advice. I've tried all those times with no luck. And yes, I checked the payment section online but there's no option to update my bank info - it says I have to verify my identity by phone first. Catch-22!

I had the EXACT same problem last week! I was about to lose my mind after 4 days of trying. The trick that worked for me was using the Claimyr service someone mentioned above. I was skeptical too but it literally got me connected to an agent in about 30 minutes after trying on my own for days. The agent told me they're getting over 400,000 calls per DAY right now. No wonder we can't get through.

NYSDOL is the WORST!!!! This has been going on for YEARS and they NEVER fix it!!!!!! They do this ON PURPOSE to discourage people from getting benefits we're entitled to!!!!! I've been dealing with them since 2021 and it's the same garbage every time. The whole system is RIGGED against us!!!!!

•It's definitely frustrating, but I don't think it's intentional. They're just severely understaffed and using outdated systems. When I finally got through last month, the agent was actually really helpful.

I just went through this last week! So annoying right? I was trying to explain my situation to the automated system but it kept misunderstanding me and hanging up! I tried for 3 days before I finally got through on Friday at exactly 8:01am. The lady told me they've been having technical issues with their phone system too which is why so many calls are getting dropped. Just keep trying!

•Thanks for sharing - at least it's somewhat reassuring to know it's not just me having these problems. I'll keep trying at 8am.

Quick update: NYSDOL just announced they're extending their phone hours starting next Monday. They'll be operating from 7:30am to 6:00pm instead of 8:00am to 5:00pm. That might help more people get through. Also, definitely consider contacting your local Assembly member's office as suggested above - they have direct channels to unemployment staff.

•That's helpful info, thank you! I'll try the extended hours next week if I still can't get through. I've also reached out to my Assembly member's office today.

Just wanted to follow up - were you able to get through? I know how stressful this can be when you're waiting on benefits or need to make an important update.

•Yes! I ended up using that Claimyr service yesterday and got connected to an agent in about 45 minutes. They were able to update my payment info and fix another issue with my claim I didn't even know about. Wish I'd done it sooner instead of wasting days hitting redial. Thanks everyone for your help!
