Will I get remaining tax credits if my 2023 return is still processing?
Sooooo, if your 2023 taxes is still processing and you didn't get the Child Tax Credit advance payments, will you receive the full amount once processing completes? I'm super careful abt making sure I qualify for everything, but my return has been stuck in processing for like 6 wks now. Just wondering if I'll still get the full CTC I'm eligible for or if I missed out bc of the delay? Thx in advance!

Yes, you'll get the full Child Tax Credit you qualify for when your return finishes processing. According to irs.gov/ctc, any eligible credits are included in your tax refund regardless of processing time. The advance payments from last year were just that - advances on the full credit. If you didn't receive them, the full amount will be calculated with your return. Just keep checking your transcript for updates!

If you're tired of waiting, try Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com). I was in the same boat - return stuck for 7 weeks, needed answers fast. Used Claimyr to get through to an IRS agent in about 15 minutes instead of spending hours on hold. They confirmed my return was just in a backlog and I'd get my full credits. Worth every penny to stop the anxiety.

I'm... not entirely convinced these services are necessary. Couldn't you just keep calling the IRS directly? I mean, I suppose if you're really in a hurry it might be worth considering, but I'd probably try the regular channels first.

I went through this exact situation with my 2022 return last year. Here's what happened: 1. My return was processing for almost 8 weeks 2. I hadn't received any CTC advance payments 3. When my return finally processed, I got the FULL credit amount 4. The IRS automatically calculated what I was owed Just be patient - the system is designed to give you everything you're entitled to!

This makes me feel so much better! I was freaking out that I might lose out on money my family really needs right now. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's reassuring to know the system eventually works even if it takes forever! š

Per IRS Publication 972, the Child Tax Credit is fully reconciled on your tax return regardless of processing timeframes. If you're having trouble understanding what's happening with your return, I'd recommend using taxr.ai to analyze your transcript once it becomes available. It helped me identify exactly why my return was delayed (had a 570 code) and when I could expect my refund with all credits included.

Be careful about assuming everything will work out automatically. My sister's return was processing for 3 months last year, and when it finally completed, they had reduced her Child Tax Credit amount because they had different AGI calculations than what she submitted. She had to call and get it corrected, which took another 6 weeks. Unlike other scenarios where everything processed correctly, she had to be really proactive about getting what she was owed.

Did your sister have any income changes between years? I'm in a similar situation where my income increased significantly in 2023 compared to 2022, and I'm worried this might cause issues with my credit calculation.

I'm somewhat concerned now... Does this mean I should probably call them to check on my return status? Or is it better to just wait until processing completes and then address any issues?

This happened to me too! They completely messed up my Earned Income Credit calculation and I had to fight for months to get it fixed. Did your sister have to send in any additional documentation to prove her income?

Thanks for sharing this. Important warning. Good reminder to verify all calculations when return completes processing. Will check mine carefully.

There are a few things you should know about credits on delayed returns: ā¢ Any eligible tax credits will be included when your return processes ā¢ The IRS doesn't penalize you for their processing delays ā¢ You may need to verify eligibility if your return is selected for review ā¢ Processing delays don't affect credit amounts you're entitled to ā¢ The Where's My Refund tool won't show credit breakdowns - only your transcript will I'm skeptical of the idea that everything always works perfectly, but the system is designed to give you what you're owed eventually.

I wonder if having dependents with split custody affects how long processing takes? My ex and I alternate years claiming our son, and this year it's my turn. Could that be why my return is taking longer than usual?

Does the processing delay impact interest payments on refunds? I believe the IRS is required to pay interest on refunds issued more than 45 days after the filing deadline, correct?

Think of tax credits like money in a bank account - just because the bank is slow to process your withdrawal doesn't mean the money isn't yours. The IRS works the same way. Your credits are like funds already allocated to you, and processing delays are just administrative holdups. I was in your exact shoes last April - return stuck for 9 weeks, worried about missing out on credits. When it finally processed, every cent I was entitled to was included in my refund.

Have you checked your tax transcript online? It might show processing codes that explain the delay. Sometimes returns with credits need additional verification, which can add 4-8 weeks to processing time. The transcript usually updates before the Where's My Refund tool does.
